    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, device and system for fast protection of an optical network system, in particular for a Passive Optical Network (PON), such as a Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON). In the method, communication failure between a first optical network device and a first optical line termination device is detected. Switching of functionality from the first optical line termination device to a second optical line termination device is initiated, and a control message is sent from the second optical line termination device to the first optical network device such that the first optical network device is prevented from moving into initial state. Furthermore, the method comprises determining and setting timing settings for the first optical network device.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for generating, transmitting, and processing error control information in a wireless communication system are disclosed. The error control information is designed so that the probability of a NACK-to-ACK error in transmission is lower than the probability for an ACK-to-NACK error. Multiple ACK/NACK bits are transmitted along with one or more side information bits that indicate the relative quantities of ACK values and NACK values among the ACK/NACK bits. In an exemplary method for generating error control information in a communication device, a plurality of ACK/NACK bits indicating whether corresponding transport blocks were successfully received are generated. One or more side information bits are formed as a function of the ACK/NACK bits, the side information bits indicating the relative quantities of ACK values and NACK values among the ACK/NACK bits, and transmitted along with the ACK/NACK bits to the remote communication node.

The input signal to the non-linear device is predistorted based on a predistortion model to compensate for distortion introduced by a non-linear device. A wideband feedback signal is generated from the output signal of the non-linear device, and the wideband feedback signal is filtered to generate two or more narrowband distortion signals with predetermined frequencies corresponding to anticipated distortion components in the output signal. Model parameters of the predistortion model are adapted based on the narrowband distortion signals.

    Abstract: A multi-DAC system includes a plurality of DACs arranged in parallel for converting a digital signal to an analog signal, each DAC path having a different analog phase response. The system further includes a circuit for multiplying the digital signal input to at least some of the DACs by a multiplicand sufficient to shift a peak of a frequency response of the multi-DAC system to a non-DC frequency. For example, a series of +1 and/or ?1 digital values can be used to multiply the digital signal so that the signal has the same number of bits pre and post multiplication. The multiplicand can include a constant series of +1 or ?1 digital values, or a time-varying series of +1 and ?1 digital values. In each case, the peak frequency response of the multi-DAC system can be shifted away from DC to a multiple of the sampling frequency of the DACs.

    Abstract: Data related to a subscriber in a communications network is to be retrieved. A first Generic User Profile (GUP) server receives an incoming request for the subscriber related data from a data consumer in a first communication domain and determines that the data is located in a second communication domain. An outgoing request for the data is then transmitted to a second GUP server in the second communication domain via an interface. The second GUP server then retrieves the requested subscriber related data from a network repository and transmits the requested data to the first GUP server, which forwards the requested data to the data consumer. Service access to subscriber data located in other domains than the GUP Server is enabled, for example when the subscriber is roaming. The subscriber related data can also be distributed in both the first and second communication domain.

    Abstract: Reverse link reception and reverse link capacity are improved at a multi-sector radio base station (RBS) by forcing always-softer reverse link handoff conditions for mobile stations served by the RBS. Whenever a serving sector reverse link is assigned to a mobile station at the RBS, one or more additional reverse links are assigned to it from remaining sectors of the RBS. Such assignments are made irrespective of whether those sectors are, or could be, used to serve the mobile station on the forward link. The RBS improves its reception of the mobile station's reverse link transmissions by combining signals from all of the assigned reverse links. With improved reception, mobile stations can be commanded or configured to reduce their reverse link transmit power, thereby reducing reverse link interference and increasing reverse link capacity.

    Abstract: Mechanisms to provide independent DRX (discontinuous reception) functionalities for individual carriers of a multi-carrier wireless network (200) are described. DRX is a higher layer functionality indicating which TTIs (transmission time intervals) a user equipment (220) needs to read for control signals. Operating in the DRX cycle allows the user equipment (220) to reduce battery consumption. A connection is established between a base station (210) and the user equipment (220) over a plurality of carriers, where for each carrier, an independent DRX cycle is established. The plurality of carriers include anchor carriers which can carry commands from the base station (210). The anchor carriers have shorter DRX cycles than the non-anchor carriers. When a large amount of download data is to be transferred, the DRX cycles of multiple carriers are overridden and used for transfer to achieve fast download rates.

    Abstract: In a wireless network, plural downlink signals from plural base stations are transmitted to a terminal. The plural downlink signals all carry the same information to the terminal. The terminal provides feedback on the downlink channels. The feedback provides information on the taps of the channels. The amount of information fed back is constrained. Based on the feedback, transmission parameters of the downlink signals are adjusted. The process of transmitting, providing feedback, and adjusting the parameters continue so that the energy of the downlink signal is enhanced at the terminal location and suppressed elsewhere. Beam forming can be used to further suppress the energy signature at locations other than the terminal location.
