  • Publication number: 20120155575
Abstract: A superheterodyne receiver includes an A/D converter for converting an IF signal to a stream of samples at a sampling frequency that is four times the IF and a splitter that splits the stream of samples into a first set of even samples and a second set of odd samples. A first quadrature demodulator demodulates just the first set of even samples to produce one of real (I) and imaginary (Q) components of a complex signal at one half of the sampling frequency, and a second, parallel quadrature demodulator demodulates just the second set of odd samples to produce the other of the I and Q components. The demodulated first set is filtered using a first subset of filter coefficients, and the demodulated second set is filtered using a second subset of filter coefficients. The filter outputs correspond to a baseband complex signal. The technology disclosed reduces overall hardware complexity and operating frequency by a factor of two or more.

  • Publication number: 20120157108
Abstract: A base station node (BS) of a heterogeneous radio access network comprises a terminal locator (34) and a scheduler (36). The terminal locator (34) obtains an indication of location of a wireless terminal (30) in a cell served by the base station (BS), e.g., whether the wireless terminal (30) is in a center region (M) or an edge region (E) for the cell served by the base station node (BS). The scheduler (36) uses the indication of location to assign to the wireless terminal (30) a frequency of a frequency bandwidth usable by the heterogeneous radio access network. The scheduler (36) assigns a frequency from a partitioned portion of the frequency bandwidth if the cell served by the base station node is a micro cell and the wireless terminal is in an edge region of a micro cell. The scheduler (36) also assigns a frequency of the frequency bandwidth if the cell served by the base station node is a micro cell and the wireless terminal is in a center portion of the micro cell.

  • Patent number: 8204158
Abstract: A transmit circuit reduces undesired amplitude modulation (AM) in transmit signal pulses by substituting predetermined amplitude information for actual pulse amplitude information during portions of the pulse corresponding to nominally constant amplitudes. For example, GMSK and certain other modulation formats use a desired transmit pulse shape that includes a nominally flat middle portion. An exemplary AM reduction circuit detects generated pulse values corresponding to the nominally constant-amplitude portions of the transmit pulse and substitutes predetermined, preferably constant, amplitude values in their place. As such, the circuit may include a comparator used to detect the pulse values corresponding to variable amplitude portions of the pulse, which it passes through, and to detect those amplitude values corresponding to constant-amplitude portions of the pulse, which it replaces with substituted values. Such operation may include amplitude value filtering, and such operations may be modal, e.g.

  • Patent number: 8203617
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing a digital image in a Mobile Equipment operating in a telecommunications network. The digital image includes a frame of data having a plurality of pixels with data. The data of each pixel has a luminance value and a chrominance value. The method begins by obtaining chrominance value for a specified pixel of the digital image. Responsive to the obtained chrominance value, a strength to filter the specified pixel of digital image is determined. The specified pixel is then selectively and adaptively filtered at the determined strength of the filter. Preferably, chrominance values and luminance values for the specified pixel and an adjacent pixel is determined. A threshold for a variation in the range between a highest chrominance level and a lowest chrominance level of the specified pixel and the adjacent pixel is then set. The variation for the specified pixel is determined, and responsive to the value of the variation, low-pass filtering of the specified pixel is applied.

  • Patent number: 8205127
Abstract: The present invention relates to automatic repeat request (ARQ) in wireless communication systems wherein a coded message block is spread over a plurality of sub-carriers or components. According to the invention an equalizing HARQ method is introduced. The equalizing HARQ identifies (215) and retransmits (230) the most distorted parts of a received coded message block. In addition, the retransmitted parts can optionally be relocated (225) to components of higher quality, which ensures good retransmission quality for those badly distorted parts in the prior transmission. After a soft-bit combination in a receiving node, the final received codeword experience an equalized quality variation with low multi-state performance loss.

  • Patent number: 8204467
Abstract: The second-order inter-modulation distortion, originating in a differential passive mixer core from imbalance between devices, is reduced by compensating for the mismatch or load, by means of tuning the differential output impedance at the mixer core, or the input impedance of a filter coupled to the output of the passive mixer. Compensating for the imbalance allows greater suppression of even-order harmonics in the differential structure, which reduces second-order intermodulation at the output of the mixers. The compensation is achieved by tunable resistive elements that are calibrated by a built-in self-test architecture. The calibration circuit is deactivated during receiver operation.

  • Patent number: 8205140
Abstract: According to a method and apparatus taught herein, a network node includes a receiver circuit that determines soft values for received packets corresponding to the information bit groups associated with network coding operations, where the soft values are determined for each information bit group based on joint probabilities of the information bits within the information bit group. For example, first soft values are determined for the information bit groups in a first (received) constituent packet and second soft values are likewise determined for the information bit groups in a network-coded (received) packet that depends on the first constituent packet and a second constituent packet. Third soft values are generated for the information bit groups of the second constituent packet based on jointly evaluating the first and second soft values.
