Abstract: Systems and methods for using radio frequency signals and sensors to monitor environments (e.g., indoor environments) are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a system for providing a wireless asymmetric network comprises a hub having one or more processing units and at least one antenna for transmitting and receiving radio frequency (RF) communications in the wireless asymmetric network and a plurality of sensor nodes each having a wireless device with a transmitter and a receiver to enable bi-directional RF communications with the hub in the wireless asymmetric network. The one or more processing units of the hub are configured to execute instructions to determine at least one of motion and occupancy within the wireless asymmetric network based on a power level of the RF communications.

Abstract: Systems and methods for implementing power management features while providing a wireless asymmetric network are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a system includes a hub having a wireless control device that is configured to control communications and power consumption in the wireless asymmetric network architecture and sensor nodes each having at least one sensor and a wireless device with a transmitter and a receiver to enable bi-directional communications with the wireless control device of the hub. The wireless control device is configured to determine a scheduled timing of operating each sensor node during a first time period that is close in time with respect to a transmit window of the transmitter and during a second time period that is close in time with respect to a receive window of the receiver for each wireless device to reduce power consumption of the wireless devices of the sensor nodes.
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining locations of wireless sensor nodes in a tree network architecture having mesh-based features are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a system includes a hub having one or more processing units and RF circuitry for transmitting and receiving communications with sensor nodes to enable bi-directional communications. The one or more processing units of the hub execute instructions to configure the system with a tree architecture for communications between the hub and the sensor nodes, and to configure the system temporarily with a mesh-based architecture for determining location information for the sensor nodes.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining locations of wireless nodes in a network architecture are disclosed herein. In one example, an asynchronous system includes a first wireless node having a wireless device with one or more processing units and RF circuitry for transmitting and receiving communications in the wireless network architecture including a first RF signal having a first packet. The system also includes a second wireless node having a wireless device with a transmitter and a receiver to enable bi-directional communications with the first wireless node in the wireless network architecture including a second RF signal with a second packet. The one or more processing units of the first wireless node are configured to execute instructions to determine a coarse time of flight estimate of the first and second packets and a fine time estimate of the time of flight using channel information of the first and second wireless nodes.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining locations of wireless sensor nodes in a network architecture having mesh-based features are disclosed herein. In one example, a computer-implemented method for localization of nodes in a wireless network includes causing, with processing logic of a hub, the wireless network having nodes to be configured as a first network architecture for a first time period for localization. The method further includes determining, with the processing logic of the hub, localization of at least two nodes using at least one of frequency channel overlapping communications, frequency channel stepping communications, multi-channel wide band communications, and ultra-wide band communications for at least one of time of flight and signal strength techniques. The method further includes causing the wireless network to be configured in a second network architecture having narrow-band communications upon completion of localization.

Abstract: Systems and methods for implementing anti-collision features while providing a wireless asymmetric network are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a system includes a hub having a wireless control device that is configured to control communications in the wireless asymmetric network architecture and nodes each having a wireless device with a transmitter and a receiver to enable bi-directional communications with the wireless control device of the hub. The wireless control device of the hub is configured to detect a communication from a first node of the nodes, determine whether at least a portion of the communication is unintelligible to circuitry of the hub or circuitry coupled to the hub, and determine whether a collision of communications transmitting at approximately the same time from the first node and a second node has likely occurred when the at least portion of the communication is unintelligible.
