Abstract: There are provided curable anaerobic pressure sensitive adhesive stocks in the form of sheets and tapes in which the adhesive is contained between two differential release surfaces. This construction permits total pressure sensitive adhesive transfer to a substrate which is to be firmly secured to another substrate upon the exclusion of oxygen and initiation of cure of the anaerobic resin. The compositions are those, based on the total weight of the composition, containing from about 4 to about 40 percent by weight of a first anaerobic resin having a viscosity up to about 1000 cps at 25.degree. C from 0 to about 80 percent by weight of a second anaerobic resin having a viscosity greater than about 1000 cps at 25.degree. C, from about 9 to 95 percent by weight of a thermoplastic resin system, from 0 to about 10 percent of a latent accelerator and about 0.1 to about 10 percent of a hydroperoxide catalyst, the composition having static shear at 0.25 in.sup.

Abstract: Stable cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions having viscosities greater than about 200 centipoise are prepared by incorporating therein, as a thickening agent, a soluble acrylic polymer having a reduced viscosity of about 5 or greater, and a content of free radical polymerization initiator less than 1% by weight. These properties are obtained by subjecting the thickening agent to temperatures of about 140.degree.-180.degree. C. for about 30-180 minutes prior to incorporating it in the cyanoacrylate.
Abstract: Anaerobic compositions possessing high stability, and which are capable of extremely rapid speed of cure, are prepared by adding to a combination of a polymerizable acrylate ester monomer and a peroxy polymerization initiator therefor, a small but effective amount of a soluble metal chelating agent which does not materially affect the speed of cure of the anaerobic composition when used on metal surfaces.

Abstract: A polymerizable composition, suitable for use as an adhesive, sealant or coating, comprising a urethane-acrylate-capped prepolymer based on a graft polyol derived from the reaction between the polyol and a vinyl monomer or polymer. In a preferred embodiment, the graft polyol is present as the disperse phase of a polymer/polyol dispersion. The composition provides improved general properties, particularly cure-through-gap and impact properties. The composition typically has a relatively low viscosity, making it especially useful for "retaining" purposes. A process for preparing the composition and a process for using it are also disclosed.
Abstract: An anti-drip caulking device is provided having a "floating" anti-kickback dog which engages the plunger shaft. When the forward motion of the shaft is stopped, the floating action permits recoil of the plunger and dog until a tension spring is sufficiently stretched to balance the recoil force, or until a mechanical stop is engaged. The floating feature is provided by a tension and compression spring acting in opposition.
Abstract: A turntable is supported for rotation as well as for radial movement in a plane transverse to its rotational axis so that, while rotating, the periphery of a non-circular cam wheel which rotates together with the turntable may be maintained in operative driven engagement with the periphery of a drive wheel which is rotated at a constant angular velocity. A material extruding nozzle is positioned to extrude gasket forming material onto a work piece carried by the turntable at a fixed location which is in registry with the point of driven engagement between the drive wheel and the cam wheel, so that the material is uniformly applied to the work piece in a path which conforms to and is in registry with the periphery of the cam wheel.
Abstract: An initiator, particularly useful for anaerobic compositions and replacing the commonly used hydroperoxides, having the formula ##STR1## In a preferred embodiment, R is a lower alkyl group, and R' is hydrogen and Q is a hydroxyl group.
Abstract: There is provided a curable anaerobic pressure sensitive adhesive composition, a mixture of a curable anaerobic system and a high molecular weight polymer system. The mixture which may include a tackifier and other functional additives constitutes a pressure sensitive adhesive and exhibits elastomeric properties. There is also provided in the composition an initiator system necessary to permit curing of the anaerobic pressure sensitive composition upon activation by the exclusion of oxygen. One or more accelerators for cure may also be provided. In one embodiment a component of the catalyst system may be either absent and provided later or latently present in microspheres which upon rupture will enhance the curing operation.
The adhesive layer provided may be homogeneous or heterogeneous, and there may be contained within the adhesive layer a support layer. The release liner employed is preferably impervious to migration of contained compounds which serve as the accelerators for cure of the curable anaerobic resin.
Abstract: In order to form a band of coating material around the shanks of a plurality of headed articles, an arrangement is provided for conveying each article along a conveying path with a predetermined orientation past a coating applicator. The articles are initially supplied by a feeding device which emits, via a transfer device, the articles with the desired orientation onto the conveying path. The transfer device receives the articles from the feed device, accelerating them to a predetermined speed and transfers them to the subsequent conveying path with a predetermined minimum distance between each article. The subsequently arranged conveying path is formed by a pair of relatively horizontal and generally parallel conveyer elements, which elements are supported in a spaced relationship with a drive arrangement being provided for moving one of the elements relative to the other in a direction along the conveying path.
Abstract: A curable composition based on bisphenol-A derivatives or compositions corresponding to the formula ##EQU1## ("R" groups as defined herein) in combination with a free radical initiator and a bismaleimide- or nadic-type additive. These compositions have improved strength properties at elevated temperatures and improved resistance to thermal degradation. Also disclosed is a process for sealing or adhering surfaces by use of these compositions.
Abstract: This invention concerns anaerobic compositions which contain acrylate ester monomers, peroxy polymerization initiators, a substituted thiourea, and an acidic substance and which exhibit improved ability to cure through relatively large gaps.
Abstract: Porous articles impregnated with certain anaerobic polymerizable sealants and having a coating of such sealant on their surface can have such coating removed by dissolving the sealant in an aqueous solution of a surfactant having the general formula X.sup.1 --O(C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O).sub.x X.sup.2. The removal can be done at room temperature.
