    Abstract: An end cover for a rail of a ladder has a body having a front and a back and a first side and a second side and a top and a bottom, a hole formed in the body adjacent the back and the top, a tread affixed to the front, at least one pocket formed is the bottom of the body for accommodating an end of the rail of the ladder, and a groove formed in the body that extends from the bottom to the top. A central planar portion extends downwardly from the bottom of the body. The tread is formed of an elastomeric material. The tread has gripper sections that extend outwardly from the front of a body.

The groove extends from the first side of the top panel to the second side of the top panel. The groove has a flat portion and an angular portion. The flat portion has a first portion and a second portion. The angular portion is positioned between the first portion and the second portion of the flat portion. The angular portion has a generally V-shape. The first drill hole and the second drill hole are polygonal in shape.

A slidable base rail is mounted at a bottom of each of the side rails so as to support a shoe at a bottom thereof.
