Patent number: 11260692Abstract: A portal-axle of bogies for light rail vehicles, such as for example trams or light rail metros with street running, is described, the light rail vehicles being characterized by a floor, i.e. a walking surface, lowered with respect to the rails. The portal-axle comprises two shoulders equipped with spindles for mounting wheels and with a central portion for structurally connecting the shoulders. Unlike conventional solutions, the central portion is not made by casting or forging, but advantageously is simply defined by at least two bars coupled thereto during the assembly. The bars are easily available on the market at low cost, have lower weight with respect to a traditional forged/cast component and allow modularity and versatility in dimensioning the portal-axle to be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2017Date of Patent: March 1, 2022Assignee: LUCCHINI RS S.P.A.Inventors: Marco Fenaroli, Steven Cervello, Riccardo Gallo, Stefano Cantini

Patent number: 10836409Abstract: A protecting element of railway wheelsets is described, the protecting element being constituted by a pad provided with a plurality of transversal grooves without which the pad could not be rolled up on the axle at room temperature. The pad is made of a material having high thickness or high strength, that is respectively between 5 mm and 10 mm and between 50 kJ/m2 and 80 kJ/m2. Thanks to the combination of thickness and resilience values, in addition to the grooves, the pad can be manually rolled up on the axle, without the aid of presses and without prior heating. Thus, the solution according to the present invention combines the advantages of ease of installation, such as the possibility of manually rolling up the protecting element on the axle, with the effectiveness of the protection provided by rigid protecting elements.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2017Date of Patent: November 17, 2020Assignee: LUCCHINI RS S.P.A.Inventor: Steven Cervello

Patent number: 10336350Abstract: An axle of railway wheel sets and a corresponding method for the ultrasound inspection are described. A blind hole, coaxial to the axle and sized to accommodate an ultrasonic probe, is obtained in each end of the axle. Main holes are intended to accommodate the probe holder containing a plurality of ultrasonic transducers for the inspection of the axle from the inside of the hole. The main advantage is to facilitate the propagation of the ultrasounds without being subjected to the interference caused by the geometric discontinuities normally present at the ends of the axles thereby minimizing false positives in the readings of the echoes.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2015Date of Patent: July 2, 2019Assignee: LUCCHINI RS S.P.A.Inventors: Stefano Cantini, Steven Cervello

Patent number: 9533529Abstract: A railway wheel includes a rotation axis and a supporting disk which can be attachable on an axle at the rotation axis. The supporting disk can be coupled with a wheel rim for rolling on a rail. The wheel provides damping means of the rim with respect to the supporting disk which include elastic elements interposed between the disk and the rim, aside with respect to the median plane of the wheel. Each elastic element has its own geometrical axis and includes a first face facing the median plane of the wheel and a second face opposed thereto and facing the opposite part with respect the median plane of the wheel, so that the elastic element extends its thickness between the two faces. The first and second faces of each elastic element have the same concavity or convexity when considered in cross section in any plane containing the geometrical axis.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2013Date of Patent: January 3, 2017Assignee: LUCCHINI RS S.P.A.Inventors: Steven Cervello, Dimitri Sala
