  • Patent number: 6598991
Abstract: A miniature flashlight device includes a housing having a cavity, a pair of magnets mounted to the housing, and a light generating assembly disposed in the cavity of the housing. The light generating assembly includes a lamp, at least one battery and a spring-loaded switch connected in an electrical circuit with the lamp and battery and activatable to electrically connect and disconnect the battery with the lamp. The magnets are arranged such that when the housing is placed on a ferromagnetic surface the magnets attract the surface with sufficient force to activate the spring-loaded switch and open the circuit, turning the device off. When the magnets are disengaged from the surface, the spring brings the switch into the closed circuit position.

  • Patent number: 6361184
Abstract: A lighting device convertible between reading light and flashlight configurations has separate off/on light actuating switches. The lighting device includes a case, an elongated arm, hinge, light cap, light element, batteries, first switch and second switch. The hinge pivotally mounts a rear end of the arm to a rear end of the case to allow pivotal movement of the arm between an erect position angularly spaced from the case, the reading light configuration, and a lowered position against the main body, the flashlight configuration. The light element is mounted to the light cap which, in turn, is pivotally mounted to a front end of the arm for positioning the light element at various angles to provide light therebelow at various angles with the arm in the erect position and for positioning the light element at first and second angularly displaced positions to provide light directly forwardly of the case in the first position but not in the second position with the arm in the lowered position.

  • Patent number: 6213618
Abstract: A lighting device convertible between reading light and pen light configurations uses only a single off/on light actuating switch in either configuration. The lighting device includes a main body, pivoting arm, hinge, light generating element, batteries and switch member and button. The main body has opposite front and rear ends and defines a recess at the front end. The pivoting arm has opposite front and rear ends. The hinge pivotally mounts the rear end of the pivoting arm to the rear end of the main body to allow pivotal movement of the pivoting arm between an erect position angularly spaced from the main body, the reading light configuration, and a lowered position adjacent to the main body, the pen light configuration.

  • Patent number: 5463539
Abstract: A miniature pocket flashlight includes a battery receptacle and electrical switch unit, a lamp, and a lens module with an integral lens element which are all encased and covered by an outer sheath of flexible material. The lens module are mounted to an end of the battery receptacle and electrical switch unit and has a central passage formed therein behind the lens element which receives, surrounds and protects the lamp which is also mounted and electrically connected to the one end of the unit. The flexible outer sheath of the pocket flashlight is formed by a pair of flexible flaps integrally connected together at one end where they define an aperture for external exposure of an end of the lens element. The outer sheath is stretched over the components and the peripheral edges of the flexible flaps are attached to one another so as to encase and enclose and thereby retain together the lens module, lamp and battery receptacle and electrical switch unit.
