Patent number: 11998759Abstract: Low-level light therapy system with an electrically passive, article of apparel that absorbs an incident spectrum including one or more of a UV wavelength, a visible wavelength, and a near infrared wavelength and emits light having an emission spectrum including visible light radiation and near infrared radiation. Light is emitted from the yarns and a textile material consisting of a network of yarns (as well as the article of apparel made from such a textile material) having an emission spectrum including visible light radiation and near infrared radiation in a direction toward a body of a person. An article of apparel that emits light in the visible/near infrared spectrum, a method of manufacture, and a low-level light therapy method are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2019Date of Patent: June 4, 2024Assignee: Lumia Group, LLCInventors: Robert Gates Hinds, Marco Scipioni

Patent number: 11129429Abstract: Methods and associated light management system variously provide protection of at least UPF 50, a cooling effect, a shading effect, a warming effect and a source for a photovoltaic device. A textile material absorb incident spectrum including one or more of a UV wavelength, a visible wavelength, and a near infrared wavelength and spontaneously emits light having an emission spectrum including visible light radiation and near infrared radiation. The textile material and associated articles have a high degree of UV blocking property due to strong absorption in the UV range. In addition, the spontaneous emission releases most of the absorbed energy and, therefore, the textile material remains relatively cool under sunlight, the shading effect. Furthermore, the strong spontaneous emission allows for shielding properties even when the apparel is made from otherwise sheer knit or weave structure. Associated application methods and manufacture methods are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2019Date of Patent: September 28, 2021Assignee: Lumia Group, LLCInventors: Robert Gates Hinds, Marco Scipioni

Publication number: 20150177423Abstract: The opto textiles of the present invention utilize and exploit the light interaction characteristics of the fiber or yarn itself, and the light interaction characteristics of the fabric as a whole, such that the fabric presents a given appearance or provides a given visual effect, adequately cools a wearer/user, adequately heats a wearer/user, and/or fulfills a lifestyle or therapeutic function, for example. In various exemplary embodiments, the present invention provides fibers, yarns, and fabrics that manage and manipulate the properties of light, such as wavelength, propagation direction, degree of coherence, and intensity, utilizing, for example, the light-matter interaction, fluorescence, phosphorescence, photochromism, thermochromism, and heat-activated light generation, such that application-specific needs may be met.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2014Publication date: June 25, 2015Applicant: LUMIA GROUPInventor: Marco SCIPIONI
