    Abstract: Optical fiber-based measuring equipment for measuring the current circulating through at least one conductor. The measuring equipment includes an interrogator and a sensing portion connected to the interrogator and configured for being arranged in the proximity of the conductor. The sensing portion includes a first input branch and a second input branch coupled by means of a splitter to a first sensing branch and to a second sensing branch. The first sensing branch includes a first optical fiber winding arranged in the proximity of the conductor, and the second sensing branch includes a second optical fiber winding arranged in the proximity of the conductor, the first optical fiber winding and the second optical fiber winding having the same number of turns that are, however, wound in opposite directions.

    Abstract: An optical fiber winding for measuring current circulating through a conductor. The optical fiber winding includes a first helically wound optical fiber cable and a second helically wound optical fiber cable. The first helically wound optical fiber cable is twisted about its longitudinal axis in a first twist direction, and the second helically wound optical fiber cable is twisted about its longitudinal axis in a second twist direction, the first twist direction being opposite the second twist direction. Each of the first and second helically wound optical fiber cables making contact with one another at multiple locations along their length. Due to the first and second helically wound optical fiber cables making contact with one another and being twisted in opposite directions, counteracting forces exist where the first and second helically wound optical fiber cables contact one another to resist an untwisting.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an optical fiber winding for measuring the current circulating through a conductor. According to one embodiment the optical fiber winding includes a central support core extending in a longitudinal direction, a first optical fiber cable arranged around the central support core, a second optical fiber cable arranged around the central support core, the first and second optical fiber cables extend in a helical manner around the central support core. According to one embodiment the first optical fiber cable is twisted about its longitudinal axis in a first twist direction, and the second optical fiber cable is twisted about its longitudinal axis in a second twist direction, the first twist direction being opposite the second twist direction. Optical fiber-based current measuring equipment is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A method for measuring the current circulating through at least one conductor with the use of optical fiber-based measuring equipment is provided. According to one implementation the measuring equipment includes a first emitter that emits a first signal which reaches a sensing branch through a first branch, runs through the sensing branch, and is modified depending on the current circulating through the conductor. A modified first signal is received by a second receiver from a second branch. A second emitter emits a second signal which reaches the sensing branch through the second branch, runs through the sensing branch, and is modified depending on the current circulating through the conductor. A modified second signal is received by a first receiver from the first branch. The current circulating through the conductor is determined by combining the modified first signal and the modified second signal.

    Abstract: Optical fiber based current measuring equipment for measuring the current circulating through a conductor. The equipment includes an interrogator having a light emitter and a light receiver, and a sensing portion close to the conductor, the interrogator and the sensing portion being connected through at least one standard single-mode intermediate fiber. The light emitter of the interrogator is configured to emit sets of at least two polarized light pulses to the sensing portion, the pulses being polarized with a specific degree difference, and the light receiver (4) is configured to determine the current circulating through the conductor depending on the pulses it receives in return from the sensing portion. A method for measuring the current circulating through a conductor with the use of an optical fiber based current measuring equipment is also provided.
