Abstract: A computer system that coordinates traffic management is described. During operation, the computer system may receive information from a traffic-management system of an environment and second information from at least an instance of traffic-mapping software associated with an electronic device of a user, where the information specifies the traffic-light patterns in a time interval. Then, the computer system may compute a route, for at least a vehicle associated with the user from a current location associated with the electronic device to a destination based at least in part on the information and the second information. Next, the computer system may provide instructions addressed to the electronic device, where the one or more instructions specify the computed route.

Abstract: A computer system that manages traffic flow is described. During operation, the computer system may receive information specifying or corresponding to an estimated time of arrival of a vehicle at an intersection. Then, the computer system may receive second information corresponding to traffic conditions in an environment (such as traffic flows), where the traffic conditions are associated with one or more other intersections that input traffic to the intersection, that received output traffic from the intersection, or both, and at least a subset of the one or more other intersections are not along a route of the vehicle. Next, based at least in part on the estimated time of arrival and the traffic conditions associated with the one or more other intersections, the computer system may selectively modify traffic management in at least one of the one or more other intersections.

Abstract: A computer system that performs a remedial action is described. During operation, the computer system may receive information corresponding to traffic conditions in an environment (such as traffic flows in at least a portion of a city), where the information is associated with different types of sources distributed in the environment, and the environment includes multiple intersections and roadways. Then, the computer system may identify an event in at least a portion of the environment based at least in part on the information, such as predicting a change in a traffic condition in the environment in a subsequent time interval. Next, the computer system may perform a remedial action based at least in part on the identified event, such as: providing an alert about the event; providing an instruction based at least in part on the event; and/or modifying traffic management in at least the portion of the environment.
