Patent number: 6808236Abstract: A method for producing toothbrushes by way of injection molding is provided, wherein a brush body is formed in a mold cavity, bristle filaments are connected to the brush body for forming bristles, and at least one flexible element extending substantially in parallel with the bristle filaments is preferably formed by injection onto the brush body. The contouring and/or finishing of the bristle filaments can be carried out without any impairment by the flexible cleaning elements. During the finishing operation, the flexible cleaning element is removed from the operative area of the finishing tool.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2002Date of Patent: October 26, 2004Assignee: M+C Schiffer GmbHInventors: Andreas Lanvers, Erwin Buchholz, Armin Seifert

Patent number: 6695414Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a brush head comprising a brush head body carrying bristle bundles, in particular for tooth brushes, by way of injection molding, in which a first plastic component is injected into a first mold cavity for forming a bristle carrier, and ends of bristle filaments projecting into the first mold cavity are encompassed by the first plastic component. In order to guarantee a complete filling of the mold and a favorable reproduction of the mold cavity geometry, but to avoid at the same time a penetration of plastic mass into ducts in which the bristle filaments are held, it is suggested by the present invention that the bristle carrier manufactured during the first step is relocated into another mold cavity, which is larger than the bristle carrier, and which is filled with a hard component.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2000Date of Patent: February 24, 2004Assignee: M + C Schiffer GmbHInventors: Berthold Meyer, Gerd Broecker

Patent number: 6582028Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing brushes, especially toothbrushes, which comprise a brush body and at least one bristle bundle composed of a plurality of oriented bristle filaments, the method comprising the steps of introducing the bristle bundle into a channel which is formed on a moulding tool component, partially melting the bristle bundle at its fixing-side end so as to form an enlargement, closing the moulding tool and filling it with a flowable material. According to a first aspect of the present invention, the method is further developed in that at least a weakened length area of the bristle filaments, which is created when the bristle bundle is partially melted, is completely surrounded by the enlargement. According to a further aspect of the present invention, hot gas is used for forming the enlargement.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2001Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: M+C Schiffer GmbHInventor: Erwin Buchholz

Patent number: 6402494Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing a toothbrush comprising a handle and a brush head provided with a plurality of bristle bundles. A basic body of a brush head is produced preferably from a hard component in an injection-moulding means, the bristle bundles being embedded at their ends in bristle-bundle holding sections which are connected by bridge portions. These bridge portions are cut through and the basic body of the brush head is encompassed preferably with a soft component by injection moulding.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2000Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Assignee: M + C SChiffer GmbHInventor: Andreas Lanvers

Patent number: 6374448Abstract: The present invention relates to a brush, in particular a toothbrush, comprising a brush body carrying cleaning elements and a perforated plate through which the cleaning elements are projecting. A brush which is improved in terms of hygiene is created by the present invention in that the cleaning elements are arranged on a bristle carrier which is in threaded engagement with the brush body, and that the perforated plate is rotatably held on the brush body. Furthermore, the present invention suggests a bristle insert as a replacement part for said brush.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2001Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: M+C Schiffer GmbHInventor: Armin Seifert

Patent number: 6311360Abstract: A brush, preferably a toothbrush, comprises a brush body and at least one bundle of flexible bristes. At least one supporting element is provided on the brush body for laterally supporting at least one bundle of bristles. This improves the service life of the bundles of bristles, allowing a prolonged use of the brush and a sufficiently high flexibility of the bristles or bundles of bristles at the same time. A method of producing the brush is also indicated.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1998Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: M + C Schiffer GmbHInventor: Andreas Lanvers
