Patent number: 5349806Abstract: A feeding mechanism for a round hay baler is capable of feeding plastic sheet, netting, or alternatively twine by means of a single set of parallel feed rolls. The device includes a control mechanism which, upon sensing of a full bale having been formed within the baler, initiates a programmed control sequence beginning with driving of one roll for an incremental period of time. The driven roll engage netting, sheet or twine against the second idler roll and feeds the netting, sheet or twine into the bale forming mechanism for wrapping about the bale. Upon completion of the wrapping sequence, a special knife descends and cuts the twine or sheet of netting or plastic. The controller then resets the mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1993Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventors: John R. Swearingen, Richard K. Jardine, John O. Bradford, Loren L. Rathbun

Patent number: 4424676Abstract: An improved turbocharger system for a diesel engine includes a turbocharger driven by the exhaust gases of the engine. Air is compressed by the turbocharger prior to admission to the engine intake manifold. An auxiliary fuel tank filled with an alcohol and water mixture is pressurized by compressed air from a line connected to the turbocharger outlet. An auxiliary fuel line connects the fuel take to the intake manifold. So long as the auxiliary tank pressure is below a threshold pressure, a control valve maintains the auxiliary fuel line in closed condition. Upon exceeding the threshold pressure, the valve opens and the water and alcohol mixture is driven by an auxiliary pump and injected into the intake manifold. The outlet pressure of the turbocharger controls the initiation and quantity of fuel provided from the auxiliary fuel tank to the intake manifold.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1981Date of Patent: January 10, 1984Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventor: Elmo R. Patent number: 4415041Abstract: A minimum tillage rotary hoe includes a tool bar mounted transverse to the direction of field travel. Projecting rearwardly from the tool bar are a plurality of rotary hoe support arms each having a single, uniform diameter, multi-tined rotary hoe affixed to the end thereof. The rotary hoe members are staggered to define a forward row and a rear row of hoe members, each row defining generally a separate, single axis of rotation. The axes of the rows are separated by a distance less than the diameter of the rotary hoes but greater than about 0.8 the diameter of the rotary hoes. Separation is considered critical in order to render the hoes self-cleaning. Self-cleaning of field trash is effected by movement of adjacent hoes and more particularly the tines of adjacent hoes past one another to clean out the trash.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1981Date of Patent: November 15, 1983Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventor: Charles K. Fackler

Patent number: 4296595Abstract: A mechanism for wrapping a plastic cover sheet about a round bale of hay is incorporated in a round bale forming machine. The mechanism includes an arbor for receipt of a roll of wrapping material. The arbor is positioned in the bale forming machine forward of the bale forming mechanism. The wrapping material is fed from the roll and wraps about the formed round bale as the baling machine moves forward. After the wrapping material encircles the bale, it is cut. The cut end is overlapped on the wrapped bale and glued thereto. Various wrapping material feed and cut off mechanisms are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1979Date of Patent: October 27, 1981Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventor: Elmo R. Meiners

Patent number: 4272097Abstract: A drawbar for mounting two or more farm implement tool bars to a vehicle, such as a tractor, includes a single elongated crossbar with running gear. The crossbar extends transverse to the direction of vehicle travel and is hitched to the vehicle by a bracket and hitch assembly. Multiple farm implement tool bars are attached to the cross bar for field operation. The crossbar is hinged at its center and by proper adjustment of the bracket assembly may be folded to extend in the direction of vehicle travel. The drawbar is thereby converted to a narrow profile acceptable for road travel.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1979Date of Patent: June 9, 1981Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventor: Erwin D. Cornelius

Patent number: 4215569Abstract: A water brake dynamometer includes a water brake having a stator housing with a rotor disc mounted on a through shaft. Water from a reservoir is directed into the housing as the shaft and rotor are driven by an external engine. Means are provided to measure the torque transferred from the rotor to the stator housing. An adjustable, unitary valve mechanism controls the rate water is directed into the housing from the reservoir and removed from the housing for return to the reservoir. The valve mechanism includes a single stem having multiple valve members operated by a single hydraulic piston control.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1978Date of Patent: August 5, 1980Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventors: Melvin E. Patent number: 4213332Abstract: A water brake dynamometer includes a water brake having a stator housing with a rotor disc mounted on a through shaft. Water is pumped into the interior of the housing as the shaft and rotor are driven by an external engine. Momentum interaction transfers force between the rotor and stator housing. The planar surfaces of the opposing surfaces of the rotor housing are substantially identical as are those of the stator. A measuring device has been provided to measure the torque transferred from the rotor to the stator housing.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1979Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventors: Melvin E. Patent number: 4203545Abstract: A thermostatically responsive valve bypass mechanism includes a piston slidably mounted in a bypass channel through a valve member. The piston is normally spring biased to a first closed position. A heat transmissive probe is attached to the valve member and includes a series of thermostatic actuators mounted in opposed relation to the spring biased piston. The actuators expand in response to increased temperature and force the piston to an open position whereby fluid flow occurs through the bypass channel.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1978Date of Patent: May 20, 1980Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventor: Kenneth C. Patent number: 4201081Abstract: A pressure responsive sensing device includes a housing defining a chamber. The chamber is filled with a non-compressible fluid and is closed at one end by a diaphragm. The diaphragm is retained in position by a cover plate. A stem connected to the outside of the cover plate projects through a bearing passage and has an outer end exposed to receive a force. A force on the end of the stem is transmitted via the plate and diaphragm against the fluid in the chamber. The pressure in the chamber, in turn, is transmitted ,o an electronic transducer sensing device through a constricted passage in the wall of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1978Date of Patent: May 6, 1980Assignee: M & W Gear CompanyInventor: Melvin E.
