Abstract: A track leveling and ballast tamping machine comprises a standard vehicle capable of being coupled to a train, two undercarriages supporting the frame for movement in an operating direction along a track and a drive for moving the frame along the track. A ballast tamping unit is connected to the frame between the undercarriages and a track lifting unit is connected to the frame between the undercarriages ahead of the ballast tamping unit in the operating direction, a track leveling reference system controlling the lifting of the track by the track lifting unit. A ballast receiving and storage container is mounted on the frame ahead of the ballast tamping and track lifting units in a forward portion thereof, the container having adjustable outlet ports for distributing ballast in respective ones of the cribs, and a ballast conveyor is arranged on the frame for conveying ballast to the ballast receiving and storage container in the forward portion of the frame, in the operating direction.

Abstract: The artificial breast prosthesis of the present invention comprises an ou shell of silicone material having a concave cavity formed at its rear surface. Nested within this concave cavity is a plastic foam shell which in turn has a concave cavity at its rear surface. The outer silicone shell and the foam body member nested within the outer shell are both enclosed within a fabric pocket having a rear slit therein for permitting removal of the silicone and foam body members.

Abstract: The ball valve, especially for a solvent-containing flow and/or an abrasive solid mixture, has a housing, a sintered ceramic valve seat, a sintered ceramic valve ball and an operating shaft for the valve ball guided through a shaft seal in the housing. The valve ball is positioned free of an elastic seal between seating surfaces of the valve seat and the valve seat has at least two sintered ceramic seat rings which are mounted in the housing and which are acted on with a pressing force by an elastic element supported in the housing. The valve ball is positioned between the seat rings which seal on the housing and are acted on with a sealing force. The seat rings have a plurality of seating surfaces which are formed like the surface of an inner core and contact tangentially on the valve ball along circumferential sealing lines.

Abstract: For the treatment, especially the dyeing of fabrics, a container is illustrated, which is subdivided into at least two compartments, and is provided, above the compartments, with a motor-driven winch, the direction of which is reversible. The fabric, which can be in rope form, or in open-width form, runs on the winch, and is moved thereby in combination with a system of or nozzles, which spray the dyeing bath onto the fabric. The fabric is anchored on each end at spaced locations in the container which are substantially opposite to each other, in the container area above the compartments, and is made alternately moveable, gathering from either of the compartments into the other one.

Abstract: A process for producing ultrafine ground calcium carbonate is disclosed in which a dry feed stone is slurried to a 15 to 60% by weight solids slurry and dispersed with an organic dispersant. The dispersed slurry is fed to an attrition mill where it is bead ground to 50-70% less than 2 microns. The ground calcium carbonate is classified in a centrifuge into a product stream having from 70-99% of its particles less than 2 microns and an underflow stream of larger particles. The product stream is treated with ozone which serves not only to increase the brightness of the product but to return the slurry to a non-dispersed state. The calcium carbonate slurry is then dewatered to produce a 58-69% solids product suitable for preparing a higher solids slurry or for spray drying.

Abstract: A daytime headlight illumination device carried by a motor vehicle such as a motorcycle or a car for better visibility thereof to other motor vehicles comprising a motor vehicle headlight assembly including a light source and a headlight lens and a shutter assembly located directly in front of the headlight lens and in the path of light rays originating from the light source, the shutter assembly including a plurality of fluorescently colored movable shutter blades and means for moving the shutter blades between an open position for use during nighttime wherein the light rays are passing through only the headlight lens and a closed position for use during daytime wherein the light rays are passing through the headlight lens and the fluorescently colored shutter blades so as to make the motor vehicle carrying the device highly visible during the daytime.

Abstract: A clamping head is shown having a cylindrical portion engaging an interior portion of an associated winding tube and a collar or flange which axially abuts against the axial end face of the associated winding tube; extending axially between the cylindrical portion and the collar or flange is a conical portion of longitudinally extending serration; the teeth of such serration start, from the diameter of the cylindrical portion, beginning with a zero cross-section and increase toward the collar or flange with steadily increasing geometrically similar cross-section.

Abstract: The output rotation of an automatic transmission is transferred to a flyweight to rotate it. A spool is depressed in an axial direction under the centrifugal force of the flyweight, generating a governor hydraulic pressure corresponding to the rotational speed of the flyweight. Some of the governor pressure is fed back to the spool. The force in the direction opposite to the pressing force generated by the flyweight is applied to the spool, thereby balancing the spool. A spring enclosing chamber communicating with the outside is formed serially in the axial direction of the spool and separately from the feedback hydraulic pressure. A force in the direction opposite to the pressing force of the flyweight is exerted on the spool by the spring disposed in the spring enclosing chamber, thereby establishing a breakpoint at which generation of the governor hydraulic pressure occurs.

Abstract: A V-engine is provided with a scotch yoke and connecting rods attaching plural pistons to the yoke such that the power stroke of both pistons is substantially simultaneous and the return strokes are substantially silmultaneous. Piston dwell is introduced by virtue of the lateral and angular displacement of the pistons in their respective angularly disposed cylinders and, in addition, dwell is introduced by virtue of the scotch yoke configuration wherein the slot retaining a sliding block connecting the yoke to the throw of a crankshaft may be of various configurations, rectilinear, curvilinear and offset arcuate in configuration.

Abstract: A system in a subscriber television network for enabling descrambling of a received scrambled signal on a prepaid basis and/or an impulse-purchase basis. A received mask signal uniquely related to the scrambled signal is compared with a received authorization signal indicating whether the subscriber is authorized to receive the scrambled signal on a prepaid basis and a prepaid signal for enabling descrambling is provided when the compared signals match. A not-prepaid signal is provided when they do not match. A received cost signal indicating the charge for descrambling the scrambled signal and a received credit signal indicating the subscriber's endlessly accumulated credit are processed with reference to a stored record of the subscriber's prior accumulated charges to determine whether the subscriber has sufficient available credit to pay for descrambling of the scrambled signal.

Abstract: The device consists of a series network of a rectifier and a choke connected in parallel with a gas-discharge vessel and a capacitor. Between an intermediate tap of the primary of the saturating transformer and the positive terminal of the recitifer a thyristor is connected so that its cathode is connected with the intermediate tap. The control circuit of the thyristor consist of connected with each other secondary of the saturating transformer, unit for control pulse shaping, whose input is connected with the output of a voltage sensor mounted across the gas-discharge vessel. Between the intermediate tap of the primary of the saturating transformer and the positive terminal of the rectifier a series circuit of a diode and a second choke is connected so that the anode of the diode is connected with the intermediate tap.

Abstract: A proximity switch or contactless switch circuit comprises within a casing a flexible insulating carrier provided along a component side with a multiplicity of electronic components connected by conductive strips to form the contactless or proximity switch circuit. An extension of the carrier or the opposite side of the carrier are provided with continuous conductive coatings so that when the carrier is folded or rolled within the casing, a portion of the carrier strip provided with the coating or layer forms an additional shield.

Abstract: What is described herein is a process of making a U.V. stabilized PVC article wherein the surface region of the article is modified with a U.V. stabilizer and the treated surface is substantially free of residual stabilizer thereon. The process includes the steps of (a) applying a solution of a U.V. stabilizer in a solvent which is capable of swelling the PVC but is otherwise non-aggressive thereto, and (b) displacing residual solution remaining on said thus treated surface by a liquid which is non-miscible with said solvent.In the preferred form of the invention, step (b) is carried out by contacting the treated surface with water to cause physical removal of the residual solution out of its position on the treated surface, such as by agitation, a jet stream, ultrasonics, and the like.

Abstract: A prosthetic ankle having an elongated tubular shank, which provides bending. The shank is part of a monolithic ankle with the lower portion being a flexure joint. The flexure joint has a flexing post defined by an entrapment kerf. The entrapment kerf allows relatively free movement of flexure within defined limits in axial rotation, dorsi and plantar flexion, inversion and eversion. The kerf surfaces provide resistance to axial rotation during dorsiflexion.

Abstract: A shift-over device for controlling the turning drum grippers of a rotary sheet printing press optionally changeable for one-side printing or two-side printing and having a relatively rotatable gripper opening cam and an axially movable gripper turning cam includes a rotatable switching shaft carrying a stop arm with adjustable stops mounted on the press frame for engaging the stop arm and limiting the rotation of the switching shaft in opposite directions. A first crank arm is secured to the switching shaft and carries a lash lever coupled to the gripper opening cam for relatively rotating it incident to oscillations of the switching shaft. A second crank arm is secured to the switching shaft and coupled to a push arm having face cams engageable with push rods connected to the gripper turning cam for axially shifting it incident to oscillations of the switching shaft.

Abstract: The regulator and shut off valve for a corrosive media, particularly for a wet chlorine-containing gas and a chloride ion containing fluid, comprises a pressure resistant housing and a shut-off member held between at least two seat rings. The housing has a passage for the corrosive media. The seat rings are supported in the housing and contact the shut off member under tension. To protect against abrasion and erosion the housing is made of titanium or a titanium alloy, at least one sintered ceramic wear sleeve is provided on the circumference of the passage in the housing and the wear sleeves are inserted in the housing with radial play an with axial play so that a space is formed between the outer circumference of the wear sleeve and the housing, which is connected with the passage cross section of the wear sleeve by a compensating gap.
