Abstract: A wheel supported wagon includes a gravity discharge container or hopper for directing grain, feed, dry fertilizer or other granular material into a receiving box mounted on the side of the hopper. An inclined elongated auger unit includes a tubular conduit enclosing a hydraulically driven auger, and the lower end portion of the conduit has an inwardly projecting and upwardly curved annular upper flange. The flange seats on a downwardly projecting and outwardly curved lower flange forming part of an annular auger support member projecting downwardly from the material receiving box. The mating flanges provide for rotating the auger unit on a vertical axis and also for tilting the auger unit in a vertical plane at any selected rotational position.
Abstract: A strain gauge sensor for measuring the unit weight of a moving sliver in a textile machine, comprising a support rigidly mounted on a sliver output end of the textile machine and a trumpet carried by the support for outputting a condensed sliver. At least one strain gauge is carried by the support and responsive to strain imposed on the support by movement of sliver through the trumpet. Electrical circuit is means carried by the support in electrically communicating relation to the strain gauge, and includes a power supply and amplifier carried by the electrical circuit on the support for outputting an excitation voltage and a Wheatstone bridge for receiving the excitation voltage from the power supply and applying the excitation voltage to the at least one strain gauge, receiving a feedback signal from the strain gauge and outputting a control signal corresponding to the weight of the sliver passing through the trumpet.
Abstract: Apparatus and systems for use in cleaning the gap or crevice under a person's fingernails. The inventive apparatus includes one or more finger alignment guides which assist in maintaining the fingers in a desired orientation and a mechanical scrubber, such as a brush, individual strands, or a set of water jets, which are able to mechanically remove dirt and other foreign debris from the gap under a person's fingernails. The cleaning system further includes a cleaning liquid, such as an aqueous solution or other solvent-based liquid or solution that is able to assist the mechanical scrubber in removing foreign debris from under the fingernails. The alignment guide may be stationary while movement of the mechanical scrubber provides the scrubbing action. The mechanical scrubber will typically be driven by a motor or pump. Alternatively the fingers may move relative to the scrubber in order to provide the scrubbing action.
Abstract: Provided are hydrophobic targeting sequences, which may serve to target heterologous proteins to a variety of cellular membranes. In particular, the structural components of the nuclear envelope, or those components which become nucleus-associated, may be targeted with the sequences provided. Also provided are methods of targeting heterologous proteins to particular membranes, and the use of these targeted proteins in therapeutic, diagnostic and insecticidal applications.

Abstract: An automatic center cavity equalizing valve for equalizing pressure in a main valve. The equalizing valve includes a body with a bore for providing fluid communication between an upstream port and a center cavity port, and a downstream port and the center cavity port. A metal ball is disposed within the bore and is arranged to mate with upstream and downstream seats to seal communication with the upstream or downstream port and the center cavity port depending upon the differential pressure across valve. The metal ball is spring biased against the downstream seat to prevent damage to the downstream seat due to rattling. In addition, access plugs are provided at opposite ends of the bore to allow for access to the interior of the bore for repairing or replacing the metal ball, the seats, and/or other internal components.
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for transmitting data between a transceiver and transcoder pair of a cellular radio system is disclosed. A pair of transceiver-transcoder-links normally transmitted on two separate channels are broken into a series of four bit data segments which are multiplexed together into series of eight bit timeslots for transmission between a transceiver and a transcoder pair.

Abstract: Loose material is transferred from a surface primarily laterally outward with respect to a forward direction of movement. A plurality of elongated strip brush members are oriented at a predetermined acute angle and moved in an oval rotational pattern about a rotational axis and simultaneously in longitudinal movement parallel to the rotational axis. The movement of the strip brush members induces substantially more pushing movement on the loose particles in a direction laterally outward parallel to the rotational axis than in a direction perpendicular to the rotational axis. The strip brush members contact with and withdraw from the surface in a substantially vertical orientation.
Abstract: A separator plate for fuel cell stack comprising a multiple-step peripheral wet seal structure and a multiple-step manifold wet seal structure which utilizes lateral and vertical material displacement resulting from the application of cell clamping forces to provide improved fuel cell and stack reactant gas sealing.
Abstract: Methanol emissions in the CO.sub.2 vent from a synthesis gas unit in an ammonia or hydrogen plant are reduced by contacting raw synthesis gas from a low temperature shift converter with recycled stripped condensate to absorb methanol. The synthesis gas is treated in a purification unit to form the CO.sub.2 vent of reduced methanol content. The condensate from the contacting step is steam stripped to form a process steam stream suitable for feed to the reformer and a stripped process condensate stream suitable for offsites polishing, a portion of which is recycled for contacting the raw synthesis gas.

Abstract: A conventional utility meter has numeric information supplied to a display. The utility meter is modified by the addition of a module port for a telecommunications module. The telecommunications module receives the numeric information which is supplied to the display, and communicates that numeric information as data signals to one of the plurality of standardized wireless telephone networks.
Abstract: A resonator having piezoelectric properties is tuned to respond at a specific overtone of its parallel plate resonant frequency. A channel is etched in a blank to confine the oscillations to a predefined area thereby maximizing a predetermined overtone. The position and dimension of the channel are selected to confine the oscillation to a radius that maximizes the response at a desired frequency. The desired frequency is a predetermined overtone of the fundamental frequency. The channel limits the area of oscillation of the blank. The channel may be formed using grooves or slots. The slots are arranged to form a ring. The channel may be positioned inside or outside an electrode.
Abstract: Ashes are used when they have the particle size of fly-ash, i.e., when they have just been produced by a combustion process. They can be used, inter alia, for dehydrating and/or stabilizing sewerage plant sludge or sludge from surface treatment plants, for detoxifying liquid, semi-liquid or solid media contaminated by heavy metals and the like, and for removing pollutants from hydrocarbon-containing liquid or semi-liquid media.
Abstract: A garment, such as a coat, shirt, or jacket, for a firefighter, a rescue worker, a forestry worker, or another worker having to carry a rope has a back portion and two front portions, each front portion extending from the back portion at one side of the garment. A back pocket extending at least substantially across the back portion, between the sides of the garment, is adapted to carry a rope placed in a zigzag pattern. A front pocket extending at least partially across one of the front portions of the garment communicates with the back pocket, through a slit in the garment, so that a rope carried within the back pocket is removable through the slit and through the front pocket. A front flap overlies the front pocket and the slit. The back pocket is accessible from the interior of the garment and the front pocket is accessible from the exterior of the garment. A strip coacting with the back portion to define the back pocket has an upper edge and a lower edge.

Abstract: The package type identifier of "conversation with permission" is utilized in certain ANSI-41 Mobile Application Part (MAP) messages to allow a node receiving the message to generate an appropriate response message necessary for MAP operation closure within a Transaction Capability Application Part (TCAP) transaction. In one implementation, an ANSI-41 MAP error or reject message includes a package type identifier of "conversation with permission" instead of "response" thus allowing the node receiving the error or reject message to appropriately respond in connection with the closure of an open MAP operation. In another implementation, the "conversation with permission" package type identifier is specified for an ANSI-41 MAP instruction request message to support MAP operation closure in the event of an error or rejection in that operation.
