Patent number: 5540316Abstract: Coin-controlled apparatus for locking shopping carts together in nested series at a cart parking station having coin-controlled mechanism mounted on a cart, e.g. on the handle of the cart, which is adapted for receiving and releasably locking therein a latch bar on a tether which is attached to the next cart in the nested series. Deposit of a coin is required to release the latch bar to free the cart for being wheeled away by the user. The coin is held until the user brings the cart back to a cart parking station, nests it in the end cart at the parking station, and inserts the latch bar which is tethered to the end cart in the mechanism to lock the returned cart to the series and to provide for return of the user's coin. The apparatus has a detent arrangement permitting reduction in its size.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1995Date of Patent: July 30, 1996Assignee: Anthony M. DiPaoloInventors: Anthony M. DiPaolo, John T. Patent number: 5535670Abstract: A cantileverable roll for use in a roll press, wherein the cantileverable roll cooperates with a backing roll. The cantileverable roll has a rotating surface and is either a solid rotatable roll body or a stationary roll body with a rotatable shell around it. A journal at each end of the cantileverable roll is supported in a respective bearing bracket. At one end of the roll, preferably the drive end, there is a non-rotating extension piece which extends out axially from the roll body and is fastened to the bearing bracket at that end. A tension bar or the like connects the extension piece to a stationary structural part and introduces force in the roll body which compensates for the weight of the roll when the other end of the roll is temporarily unsupported and the roll is cantilevered. The backing roll may also be cantilevered. The various techniques for supporting the one end of the roll by using the coupling element from the extension piece to the frame of the paper making machine are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1994Date of Patent: July 16, 1996Assignee: J. Patent number: 5536844Abstract: New chemical compounds, bis(pyrrol-2-yl)halocarbylmethanes, also known as meso-halocarbyl dipyrromethanes, are made by recting pyrrole in either of two reaction schemes. Once such scheme converts pyrrole through an intermediate, a halocarbyl carbonyl pyrrole, to a [2-(1-hydroxyl-1-hydro-1-halocarbyl)pyrrole], and then converts the latter to the desired halocarbyldipyrromethane; the last step in this scheme is a novel and useful method in itself. The other such sequence converts pyrrole, by reaction with a halocarbyl aldehyde, directly to the desired halocarbyl dipyrromethane.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1995Date of Patent: July 16, 1996Assignee: SunCompany, Inc. Patent number: 5533094Abstract: A method of and system for paging mobile stations within a cellular telecommunication system wherein the allocation of control channel paging capacity is optimized. Each page request for a mobile station received by the system is classified into a predesignated group based upon the characteristics of the request, such as the degree of certainty with which the location of the mobile is known and the origin of the page request. In accordance with the predesignated group to which the page request is assigned, each page request is assigned a paging extent designation to be associated with one or more page attempts and representing the geographic area within the system to which each page attempt is to be broadcast. A paging priority is then assigned to each page attempt based upon the previously assigned group characteristics and paging patterns. Each page attempt is executed within the system according to its designated priority.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1992Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson, A Corp. of SwedenInventor: K. Patent number: 5531714Abstract: A multifunctional visceral catheter having a self-guiding system in the form of a pair of fiberoptic sensor systems which are sensitive to a predetermined analyte, the analyte being one which is removed from the vascular circuit of interest to a high degree, such as galactose in the hepatic venous system or creatinine in the renal venous system. One of the sensors is disposed on the catheter so as to be positioned within the venous system of interest, while the other sensor remains outside the venous system in the vena cava. A substantial difference between analyte concentration values as measured via the two fiberoptic sensor systems provides immediate confirmation that the catheter is properly positioned. In addition to being self-guiding, the catheter provides for direct sampling of venous blood; includes a fiberoptic system for continuously monitoring oxygen saturation in the hepatic or renal venous blood; and is capable of measuring absolute hepatic or renal blood flow.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1995Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: M.
