  • Patent number: 4720220
Abstract: For machining the tooth flanks of a hardened workpiece having pre-formed teeth two cutting blades or plates are secured to a cutting blade or plate holder. The cutting blades or plates are provided with a base member or backing formed of a hard metal and a cover layer sintered thereon which is formed of cubic boron nitride. Each cutting blade forms a cutting surface and a clearance surface. Each individual cutting blade or plate is arranged at the cutting blade or plate holder in relation to the direction of the intended cutting movement such that the surface of the cover layer forms the clearance surface and an end face or surface of the cover layer is located in the cutting surface. Consequently, there is achieved the result that the cutting surface can be reground in the same manner as tools which, for example, are made of hardened steel and which are not provided with a cover layer.

  • Patent number: 4534007
Abstract: A displacement detector especially intended for a gear wheel grinding or inspecting machine contains a conventional pre-stage comprising a forward-backward counter receiving measuring pulses, a buffer or intermediate store for preserving the counter state at each moment, and a comparator for detecting predetermined position values during a measuring operation. To prevent overflow of the counter during more extended travel paths and at high resolution a pulse storing and detecting circuit and a synchronizer circuit are provided which enable the counter to be reset at any moment without any pulse becoming lost. Consequently, a conventional 8-bit or 16-bit microprocessor system and circuit components or elements of the same bit format can be used. The use of a 32-bit format is thus avoided, which otherwise requires substantially higher expense in terms of hardware, space and circuitry and which otherwise unavoidably must be used for more extended travel paths and high resolution.

  • Patent number: 4475154
Abstract: A circuit for transferring measured values from an incremental position measuring system wherein the analogue output signals of this incremental position measuring system are digitized and transferred via a counter to a computer which delivers them to an evaluation device. Between the counter and the computer there is provided an intermediate storage in order to avoid that the computer receives instable data during the processing time of the counter between two events, during which the counter passes from one counter state to the next one. By means of a synchronization circuit the computer controls the intermediate storage according to a priority sequence and such that this intermediate storage only reads counter states from the counter during time intervals which are greater than the processing time of the counter or at least equal thereto.

  • Patent number: 4473971
Abstract: The protective cutoff device includes a cutoff control and a cutoff valve system connected to an automatic position control which is present anyway in the gear wheel grinding machine serving for topological flank correction grinding and to an adjusting cylinder, respectively. As a result, the grinding wheel is effectively disengaged from the tooth flank in the process of being ground in the event of electric power failure and/or pressure failure or an undesirable pressure drop or upon the occurrence of any other disturbance or malfunction of the grinding wheel. Therefore one side of the adjusting cylinder is connected to a return line and the grinding wheel carrier or support is displaced against a stationary stop by a force or pressure accumulator.

  • Patent number: 4368522
Abstract: A method of measuring errors in the rotational truth of gear teeth of a gear by means of a measuring device having a feeler guide which is pivotable about a pivot axis parallel to the gear axis, the feeler guide guiding a feeler which is prebiased in the direction of the gear and cyclically engages into the gear teeth as the gear rotates. The feeler together with the feeler guide is pivotable about its pivot axis and can be displaced back in relation to the feeler guide. An electronic circuit determines the largest degree of rearward displacement of the feeler during each measuring cycle in that it stores signals delivered by the feeler and compares such stored signals with one another. During each measuring cycle there is formed from a number of signals delivered by the feeler as well as from a number of subsequently delivered signals a respective mean value.

  • Patent number: 4276699
Abstract: A method and test apparatus for testing the tooth flank profiles of large diameter gears, contemplates the provision of two contact elements and a measuring feeler, which is movable along a X-axis parallel to the connection line of both contact elements and a Y-axis extending transversely thereto. The contact elements are inserted into a respective tooth gap or space of a gear which is to be measured and the test apparatus is brought into a position where both of the axes are located in a plane normal to the gear axis. Then, there is determined the origin of a X-Y-coordinate system formed by both axis, the measuring feeler thereafter is moved along at least one tooth flank and the thus measured coordinates are compared with reference values. Importantly, the invention contemplates measuring the spacing between both of the contact elements and determining therefrom the spacing of the coordinate origin from the gear axis.
