  • Patent number: 5571685
Abstract: A morphinone reductase enzyme and related process provide for the preparation of hydromorphone from morphinone and hydrocodone from neopinone or codeinone. The enzyme has no significant activity with compounds of similar ring structure, has a molecular weight of approximately 81 kilodaltons and is composed of two identical subunits. The enzyme uses NADH as a cofactor and displays no significant enzymatic activity in the reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 4025520
Abstract: A process for the dehydrohalogenation of a 7-halo- or a 1,7-dihalodihydrocodeinone dialkyl ketal of the general formula (I): ##STR1## in which R represents an alkyl group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, X represents hydrogen or chlorine or bromine and Y represents chlorine or bromine which comprises subjecting the ketal to the action of a base in the presence of a polar aprotic solvent. The process has utility in facilitating the production of codeine.
