  • Publication number: 20230166282
Abstract: A rain simulation system that replicates realistic raindrop characteristics for controlled testing is invented. The rain simulation system can be used as a stand-alone system with wind using a blower fan or in a wind tunnel, and without wind to create wind-driven and vertically falling rain droplets, respectively. In addition, methods to simulate rainfall for stationary and moving objects such as a road passenger vehicle are proposed. The rain simulation system is fully adjustable for a range of droplet size, impact velocity, rain intensity, rain coverage via the use of dripping nozzle devices and positioning of system components. The rain simulation system dispenses distinct droplets or continuous streams that can be broken down into droplets by wind. A rain nozzle device is coupled with a rain reservoir, and multiple nozzles are used to create a rain matrix, the full matrix is integrated with a rain rack and rainwater flow control strategy.

  • Patent number: 11624411
Abstract: A non-backdrivable clutched module for a bi-directional actuator such as actuators used for active aerodynamics on vehicles. The module has both a stopper mode and a clutch mode. During the stopper mode a back-driving force gets diverted away from the actuator using a locking bearing member. If the force is too great a clutch mode will disengage the back-driving force completely from the shaft connected to the actuator, thereby preventing damage to the actuator.

  • Publication number: 20230071242
Abstract: Typical active grille shutter vanes meet the frame at either end, with a small clearance between the parts, to avoid the parts binding together. This invention adds a set of soft flaps, which are molded in a two-shot process, to allow the vanes to seal against the frame while closed but sit free of the frame while open. This clearance is accomplished by adding a stepped wall to the frame component, to create an interference between the vane flaps while turning to the closed position, causing the flaps to be deflected in a gradual mariner, so the actuator motor is not taxed with a sudden increase in required torque.
