  • Patent number: 6975090
Abstract: A power converter device for a switched reluctance motor, comprises a semiconductor circuit arrangement in the form of an asymmetric inverter, to supply one of the motor windings on the reluctance motor with current or to commutate the current from the winding. The achievement of the maximum possible current amplitude may be accelerated and the commutating of the current from the motor winding may be accelerated, whereby, in addition to the main voltage source, an additional voltage source in the form of a circuit extension is provided, which, by means of providing an additional voltage of corresponding polarity, accelerates the current feed to the relevant motor winding, or accelerates the removal of the current (commutating) from the motor winding.

  • Patent number: 6959237
Abstract: For enhancing the operational safety of an electric drive unit of a vehicle comprising a generator, which is operated by a combustion machine, and drive motors, which are connected to said generator via a direct-voltage intermediate circuit, the generator and drive motors are each subdivided into partial units, and these partial units have partial power electronics units associated therewith. The mutually corresponding partial units of generator, motors and power electronics units each constitute a drive circuit of their own, with control signals being supplied to components thereof by a specifically assigned system control unit. The system control units that are interconnected via an information exchange channel can undertake compensation measures in their drive circuit or in the other drive circuits in the event of a complete or partial failure of a drive circuit.

  • Patent number: 6831845
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-voltage transformer arrangement which converts to the direct current voltage from a direct current voltage source (2) into a direct current voltage output signal (Vout), using a current inverter (4) and a transformer (8) to an output rectifier (12), which is connected downstream, and a filter (14). The transformer (8) has a transformer core comprising several interruption points in the magnetic path, at which insulator sections are located. The individual core sections are controlled by potential. The separate transformer core sections together with their corresponding windings form a primary system and a secondary system, which is separated from said primary system both spatially and in terms of potential, having a relatively high stray inductance.

  • Patent number: 6750576
Abstract: If an interturn short-circuit occurs in a stator coil winding of a permanent magnet excited electric machine, a short-circuit current is produced there that results in an electrically induced magnetic alternating flux which corresponds in its value to the permanent magnetic alternating flux flowing through the respective winding and which is opposite in phase. Such a sort-circuit current could lead to burn-off of the turn due to its considerable strength and the loss associated therewith. To prevent this, the invention suggests in case of detection of an interturn short-circuit, to entirely short-circuit at least the coil affected by the short-circuit or to apply thereto a corresponding in-phase current and to reduce the excessive short-circuit current in the individual turn or in the individual turn section by way of this overall short-circuit current in the coil. It is thus possible to prevent burn-off of the respective turn part.

  • Patent number: 6472966
Abstract: For obtaining a compact superconductive power switch for rapid switching speeds and with high dielectric strength, several winding layers (10a . . . 10h) with several windings each are lined up adjacent each other in axial direction. Between individual layers (10a . . . 10h), there are provided cooling/heating elements (8a to 8d) in order to transfer the high-current switch unit (1) to the superconducting state and the normally conducting state, respectively, by cooling/heating, i.e. for closing and opening said unit, respectively. Mutually adjacent current conductors have the switching current flowing therethrough in opposite directions, so that the high-current switch unit (1) is of low induction, which permits fast switching times in particular when the switch is opened by an additional current pulse.

  • Patent number: 6451470
Abstract: Gas diffusion electrodes (1) for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells are modified such that the diffusion of water therein is inhibited in comparison with un-modified electrodes. Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells with the modified gas diffusion electrodes can be operated, with on the average unchanged operating conditions, without addition of water, since the gas diffusion electrodes do not allow more water to escape than that formed during the reaction of burnable gas and oxidizing agent, and guarantee sufficient membrane moisture.
