Patents Assigned to MagneTek Universal Electric
  • Patent number: 5455471
Abstract: An electric motor that includes a case having an axially oriented stamped steel endhead, a motor output shaft projecting from the endhead for coupling to a motor load, and a self-aligning spherical bearing mounted on the endhead for rotatably supporting the shaft. The bearing has a cylindrical extension that projects axially outwardly from the motor case coaxially with the shaft. The bearing extension is constructed and arranged to be engaged by the support structure and/or load coupled to the shaft for locating the same coaxially with the shaft. The bearing, including the extension, is of homogeneously integral unitary construction, preferably of lubricant-impregnated porous metal.

  • Patent number: 5375651
Abstract: A draft inducer blower motor mounting and cooling construction comprising an electric motor including a housing having openings therein and a rotor mounted on a shaft, a fan blade fixed on the shaft and interposed between the motor and the draft inducer blower, and a heat shield interposed between the motor housing and the fan blade. The heat shield is fastened to the electric motor and to the housing of the inducer blower and has portions spaced from the blower housing. The heat shield further preferably includes a portion surrounding at least a part of the motor housing such that rotation of the fan blade draws cooling air through the electrical motor and about the housing of the electric motor and thereafter radially outwardly between the heat shield and the inducer blower housing to cool the electric motor and the shaft end bearing nearest the inducer housing. In another form, the portion surrounding the motor may be eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5032749
Abstract: An electric motor comprising a stator having a plurality of radially inwardly extending circumferentially spaced polar segments. A coil is wound around each stator segment. A unitary motor overload assembly is provided and connected by a standard lead from one of the coils and by a solid uninsulated conductor lead to the other of the coils. The cross-section of the solid conductor is such that the motor will operate satisfactorily during normal running or locked rotor condition but would open by melting in the event of a winding failure of the coils which would normally result in higher than normal operating currents in the winding.

  • Patent number: 4999532
Abstract: An electric motor comprising a stator having radially inwardly extending circumferentially spaced polar segments and a plastic support on each axial end of the stator. Each support has substantially the same configuration as the cross sectional configuration of the ends of the stator, including segments overlying the segments of the stator. Each segment includes an axially outwardly extending wall, and a coil is wound around each stator segment and segment of said support. Integral strain relief portions are provided on each support for connecting the coils and for connecting power leads to the ends.

  • Patent number: 4877984
Abstract: An electric motor and pump mounting bracket assembly comprising an electric motor and a bracket fastened to the motor for supporting a pump which is driven by the shaft of the electric motor. The electric motor comprises a cylindrical shell which encircles the stator of the motor and a pair of end members engage surfaces on the shell which are accurately positioned longitudinally of the shell relative to one another and relative to the axis of the shell. The end members rotatably support a shaft in concentric relation to the shell. The pump mounting bracket includes a planar surface that is accurately located parallel to and a predetermined accurate distance from the centerline of the shell to form the mounting surface for the pump. The bracket further includes an opening through which the connecting link to the shaft of the motor extends. The accurate surfaces on shell are in predetermined longitudinally spaced relation to the centerline of the opening in the bracket.
