Abstract: A complex separation process and apparatus for decreasing non-radioactive salt content of waste solutions of nuclear power stations. The process significantly decreases in non-radioactive salt-content of waste solutions arising from nuclear power stations.Process is essentially based upon a suitable combination of up-to-date separating operations, such as precipitation, filtration, ultra-filtration, reverse osmosis, ion-exchange, evaporation and crystallization. Practically total amount of components carrying radioactivity (except tritium) can be effectively separated from the non-radioactive salts. Part of inactive salts (alkali nitrates) can be handled as industrial waste and the other part (boric acid) can be recycled. In the process precipitation, ion-exchange, reverse osmosis and crystallization are operations completing or replacing each other. Reverse osmosis is used not only for separating water and soluble, but for the separation of solved components.

Abstract: Methyl tertiary butyl ether is produced from a mixture of C.sub.4 hydrocarbons containing isobutylene and butadiene. The isobutylene is selectively reacted with a greater than stoichiometric amount of methanol at a temperature of 50 to 120 degrees C., in a homogeneous liquid phase and in the presence of a catalytic amount of sulfuric acid. The sulfuric acid is present in an amount less than 20% by weight based on the weight of the reaction mixture. The homogeneous liquid phase is maintained throughout the reaction whereby a reaction mixture containing methyl tertiary butyl ether is produced and undesired polymerization of the badadiene is avoided. The reaction mixture is cooled then reaction mixture which has been washed free of methanol, or separated unreacted C.sub.4 fraction which is isobutylene-free, is added. An upper phase containing hydrocarbons and methyl tertiary butyl ether and a part of the methanol and a lower phase containing methanol and 10 to 50% sulfuric acid is formed.

Abstract: The insulating felt comprises 23 to 39% by weight of pyrolytic resin, 35 to 54% by weight of asphalt, 4 to 7% by weight of softener, 2.5 to 8% by weight plasticizer, 2 to 4% by weight of fine grained material and 10 to 25% by weight of reinforcing material. The felt is useful for water proofing or preventing corrosion of metal and concrete objects.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing o-phenylenediamine. According to the invention 1,4-dichlorobenzene is nitrated to give 2,5-dichloro-nitrobenzene which is then reacted with an aqueous ammonium hydroxide solution and the 4-chloro-2-nitraniline obtained is subjected to catalytic hydrogenation to afford the end product which can thereafter be separated. The process according to the invention can be accomplished with a total yield of about 90% related to the 1,4-dichlorobenzene starting compound.o-Phenylenediamine is a valuable intermediate for instance in the synthesis of plant protecting agents and heat-resistant polymers.

Abstract: A self adhesion ensuring layer having a total thickness of 0.05 to 0.2 mm is carried on a PVC-foil carrier sheet having a thickness of 0.2 to 0.5 mm. The self adhesion ensuring layer comprises 70 to 100% by weight of synthetic caoutchouc, 0 to 16% by weight bitumin and 0 to 14% by weight talc. A ground layer may be interposed between the carrier sheet and self adhesion ensuring layer. The resultant system is useful for insulation of underground pipe.
