Abstract: The invention relates to a process for inhibiting spread of fire in buildings on fire and for protection against the effect of fire wherein heat insulating layer is applied onto the surface of movable and fixed building structures, involving the use of heat insulating materials in the joints of movable and fixed building structures wherein as heat insulating material heat-absorbent hydrophylic silica and/or aluminosilicate based adsorbent, preferably synthetic A-, X- or P-zeolite is used.
