Abstract: Corrosion of metals in contact with liquid systems is reduced by adding to the system a small amount of a carboxylic acid containing an organic hydrophobic group in combination with a sulfite or bisulfite of an amine. Preferred carboxylic acids and preferred sulfites are amino and amido carboxylic acids and preferred sulfites are those of ether amines. Combinations of the two types of compounds are particularly useful for preventing corrosion in different areas of oil recovery and in petroleum industry.

Abstract: Corrosion of metals in contact with liquid systems is reduced by adding to the system a small amount of a hydrazine salt of an amido carboxylic acid containing at least one hydrophobic group. The hydrazine salt of the amido carboxylic acid is preferably used in combination with an ether amine or a quaternary ammonium compound. The hydrazine salt gives a substantial reduction of both general and localized corrosion and is particularly useful for preventing corrosion in different areas of oil recovery and in petroleum industry.

Abstract: Corrosion of metals in contact with liquid systems is reduced by adding to the system a small amount of an amino carboxylic acid containing at least one hydrophobic group in combination with another nitrogen containing compound. The other compound is preferably an ether amine or a quaternary ammonium compound which also contain hydrophobic groups. The combination of substances is particularly useful for preventing corrosion in different areas of oil recovery and in petroleum industry.
