Abstract: An safety shut off valve automatically shuts off in response to seismic or other shock wave forces of a predetermined magnitude and thereafter automatically reset when there is no discernible excess gas flow due a downstream broken or leaking pipe. The shut off valve generally includes a housing having a mass spring system mounted therein for translating lateral seismic and other shock forces exerted against the housing to an axially movable magnet for decoupling a valve member plate attracted thereto allowing it to block the downstream fluid communication path. A small bypass flow permits the valve member plate to be automatically reset in engagement with the magnet when the atmospheric pressure upstream of the plate is substantially equal to the atmospheric pressure downstream of the plate.

Abstract: A magnetically operated excess flow check valve which permits fluid flow through a line when the flow is below a predetermined flow rate but shuts the flow if the flow rate rises above the predetermined limit to prevent uncontrolled flow or discharge of fluids such as might occur if a fluid line is ruptured including unique packaging or mounting of the excess flow check valve in a capsule to facilitate its installation in various flow lines, fittings, pipe systems, appliances and the like. The packaging is in the form of a self contained capsule which can be inserted in various flow passageways with the capsule facilitating assembly of the individual components into a self contained compact package.
Abstract: A magnetically operated flow device contains a flow responsive magnetically attractable body within a flow passage defining upstream and downstream directions therein. The body is movable in upstream and downstream directions in the passage. The passage includes upstream and downstream limit positions to define upstream and downstrean limits of movement of the body within the passage. Magnetic means are provided to attract the body against the fluid flow within the passage to the upstream limit position. The body constitutes a drag obstruction to fluid flow through the passage and will, therefore, decouple from its upstream magnetically retained position in the passage and move to the downstream limit position when drag froces (i.e. flow) increase to the design limit value.
