Abstract: For a rapid and accurate performance of surgery for the immobilization of vertebrae an implantation system is suggested in the case of which the surgical implements such as drills, chisels, bone milling or routing implements, implant guide implements, cooperate with an ancillary device, which renders possible an exact and speedy mounting of the respectively desired implement. The ancillary device may be an elongated guide instrument which comprises guide rails or a guide cylinder and a spreading device. A spacer, which is inserted into a gap between vertebrae after the same have been urged apart, may also be designed in the form of an auxiliary device.
Abstract: An implant for replacing vertebrae has a central load bearing member with a first end and a second end. A first support element is positioned at the first end and a second support element is positioned at the second end. At least one of the first and second support elements has a contact surface, wherein an angle of the contact surface relative to the central load bearing member and the adjacent vertebrae is adjustable for abutting at the adjacently arranged vertebrae. After adjusting the angle of the contact surface, the first and second support elements are fixedly connected to the central load bearing member.
Abstract: A bone implant is so designed that it consists of a main body, more particularly in the form of a core and unidirectional fibers, said core being surrounded by braided fiber configuration. The braided fiber configuration has an elevated fiber fraction in order to grain the surface of the braided structure. This grained surface aids the coalescent growth of natural bone tissue on the implant. The braided fiber configuration simultaneously serves as a torsion box.
Abstract: A prosthesis as a vertebral replacement element consists of two helical strands, which may are screwed together to form a tubular structure. The implant is inserted between vertebrae and then slightly unscrewed until the desired height is reached. The helical strands consist of carbon fiber reinforced composite material.
