  • Publication number: 20120017869
Abstract: A method for engine braking of an engine operating preferably on the diesel principle. Here, the engine has at least one exhaust-gas turbocharger having an exhaust-gas turbine acted on by an exhaust-gas flow and having a charge air compressor, which exhaust-gas turbine and charge air compressor are arranged on a common shaft. The engine also has an exhaust manifold which conducts the exhaust-gas flow from outlet valves of the engine to the exhaust-gas turbocharger, and has a device for throttling the exhaust-gas flow arranged between the outlet valves and the exhaust-gas turbocharger, and also has at least one bypass line for conducting the exhaust-gas flow past the throttling device, the exhaust-gas flow being conducted through the at least one bypass line to a turbine wheel of the exhaust-gas turbine, the exhaust-gas flow being throttled and a pressure increase in the exhaust gas thus being generated upstream of the device for throttling the exhaust-gas flow.

  • Publication number: 20110192162
Abstract: A method of operating a piston expander, including introducing live steam into a cylinder space via an inlet valve; expanding the live steam during a power stroke in which a piston moves from an upper dead center position to a lower dead center position; opening an outlet opening as soon as the piston is in the region of the lower dead center position; after the piston reaches the lower dead center position, conveying the expanded steam out of the outlet opening and into a steam discharge; and subsequently closing the outlet opening before the piston in an exhaust stroke reaches the lower dead center position.

  • Patent number: 7661265
Abstract: An exhaust gas system for an internal combustion engine, comprising an oxidation catalytic converter disposed in a first exhaust gas manifold section with which the exhaust gas outlets of a first portion of the cylinders communicate, and a hydrolysis catalytic converter disposed in a second exhaust gas manifold section with which the exhaust gas outlets of the remaining portion of the cylinders communicate. The hydrolysis catalytic converter, together with the oxidation catalytic converter that annularly surrounds it, are installed in a common housing. A tubular portion of the second exhaust gas manifold section extends into the housing and accommodates the hydrolysis catalytic converter in its end portion. A tubular portion of a first exhaust gas manifold section surrounds the tubular portion of the second exhaust gas manifold section, resulting in an annular in-flow chamber for the oxidation catalytic converter that simultaneously serves as a heating chamber.

  • Patent number: 7600808
Abstract: A utility vehicles, in particular for military purposes, with a chassis and a cab arranged on the frame of said chassis so that it can be tilted. The cab has a front module and a rear module. The front module forms a cabin for the driver and co-driver. The rear module forms a hood-like protective and stowage space for vehicle aggregates, parts and accessories. The floor of the front module is reinforced by two longitudinal floor members extended through the front module rear wall by supporting brackets to support the rear module. There are supports so that the rear module, can rest on the extended supporting brackets of the longitudinal floor members. On the front module rear wall and at the front of the rear module bearer frame there are matching supporting and joining elements at different levels with flush boreholes or through-holes through which screws can be threaded to securely join the two cab modules on a longitudinal, crosswise and vertical axis, and also enabling them to be released.

  • Patent number: 7523736
Abstract: A device for increasing the braking power of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine of a vehicle during engine braking operation includes a turbo supercharger and an exhaust gas turbine for each stage thereof. A respective bypass line branches off from a region of two exhaust gas header pipes that can be blocked by throttle valves. Each bypass line communicates with a nozzle bore in a turbine wall. During an engine braking operation, two partial exhaust gas streams are branched off by the bypass lines from exhaust gas retained in blocked header pipes and strike turbine wheel blades at high pressure and high speed, whereupon the turbo supercharger is driven in an accelerated manner and compressed air is supplied to combustion chambers of the engine and is there effective to increase braking power.

  • Publication number: 20090056529
Abstract: The subject of the invention is utility vehicles, in particular for military purposes, with a chassis and a cab (1) arranged on its frame (4) so that it can be tilted, and guarded in certain places by affixed armour plating (88). The inventive cab (1) is composed of a front module (5) and a rear module (6), whereby the front module (5) exhibits a front wall (7), two side walls (8, 9), a rear wall (10), a floor (11) and a roof (12), and forms a cabin for the driver and co-driver. The rear module (6), by comparison, exhibits a bearer frame (17) enclosed at least in part by walls (13, 14, 16), and forms a hood-like protective and stowage space for the power aggregate and other vehicle parts and accessories. Furthermore, the rear module (6) is attached to the rear of the front module (5) and supported by it, and may also be released. The rear armouring of the cab (1) is implemented by armour plating (88) fitted between its front module (5) and rear module (6).
