  • Patent number: 7284650
Abstract: To leach the metal, crushed ore must be dumped in relatively thin layers of a height of approx. 5 m to 10 m. A conveying and stacking system, including a movable conveyor belt system, traveling tripper and stacker is used for this. The movable conveyor belt system is formed by a plurality of individual belts, the so-called grasshoppers. Provisions are made in the dumping technology for a high block for the end device in the conveying chain, the stacker with its swingable stacker boom, to always discharge an arc-shaped layer of ore, after which the device moves back by the amount of the next layer to be discharged in an arc-shaped pattern. This process is repeated until the stacker has moved back by the effective length of a grasshopper. Conveying is then stopped, one grasshopper is removed from the conveyor belt system and dumping of the ore is then continued. To enable this technology to be used, the stacker must be provided with a material pickup area, which is as long as a grasshopper.

  • Patent number: 7191888
Abstract: A movable belt conveyor system for a leach pad for use for sulfidic copper ore, where favorable conditions are to be generated for leaching out the copper by a slight compaction of the ore piled up into a dump for the microbiological leaching technology. The movable belt conveyor system of a length of up to several km is composed of a plurality of smaller belt segments, comprising a tail segment (70), standard segments (711-n) and a head segment (72), as well as a traveling tripper (8). To prevent the loading by these individual components from being excessively compacted by the weight of the device during multiple travel over the dump during the moving process, the belt drives with the driving drum are accommodated in the tail element (70), which is supported on the soil next to the leach pad.

  • Patent number: 6948779
Abstract: A mining member designed as a cutting roller for a continuously operating surface miner for mining mineral raw materials of high strength. The roller body is equipped for this purpose with mini-disk bits of identical design. Since different conditions occur over the entire width of the roller during the separation of the material from the soil, the roller body is designed correspondingly, and the arrangement of the mini-disk bits is adapted to these conditions. The mini-disk bits in the edge areas are placed at a greater density than are the mini-disk bits (7) in the middle area. In addition, mini-disk bits are directed obliquely toward the outside as free-cutting bits at the two outer edges of the cutting roller. The height of the mini-disk bits is selected to be such that their individual virtual rolling paths together form a virtual cutting roller body, which comprises a middle cylinder, which is joined on both sides by outwardly tapering frusta.

  • Patent number: 6547336
Abstract: A surface mining and testing apparatus and system provides for the adaptation of a surface miner to the specific geological conditions of a new area of use. The special features of the surface miner are the arrangement of the milling roller (5) in front of the chassis (1) in the direction of mining, the undershot direction of rotation of the milling roller (5), as well as the adjustability of the milling roller (5) in its height and transverse slope in relation to the level. These functional features are accomplished with the testing apparatus in order to obtain the same kinematic conditions as in the surface miner. To make it possible to extrapolate the results obtained with the testing apparatus to the surface miner, the parameters overall weight, drive output and throughput of the testing apparatus are used as constant, lower ratios in relation to the surface miner.

  • Patent number: 6276758
Abstract: A continuously operating surface miner designed basically with a milling roller for the accurate, selective mining of sedimentary beds. The parameters cutting height, cutting width and feed speed are decisive for the performance capacity of surface miners. How the miner begins a block to be mined, how it finishes it and changes over to a new block to be mined is significant as well. The particular technology that can be used depends essentially on the mobility of the miner and the possibility of the engagement of the milling roller with the material to be mined. A three-caterpillar chassis for the miner and for arranging the milling roller (15a) in front of the said chassis in the direction of mining is provided. The milling roller (15a) is mounted on a transverse frame (15b) and is fastened by same to the superstructure (8) of the miner. High mobility of the miner is achieved due to this arrangement of the milling roller and the use of the chassis.

  • Patent number: 6264022
Abstract: A cover belt conveyor with a basic belt guided by three support rollers (9) arranged in a trough-shaped pattern. To guarantee the ability of such a cover belt conveyor to function at different amounts of material to be conveyed, four pressure rollers (11) are arranged over the entire width of the cover belt (3) in the case of a basic belt (2) with a troughed support roller station comprising three support rollers (9) such that the two middle pressure rollers (11a) always act on the area opposite the middle roller (9) and the two outer pressure rollers (11b) of the cover belt (3) act on the area opposite the two oblique support rollers (9). The pressure rollers (11) are arranged individually pivotably on the frame of the conveyor and they can thus automatically adapt themselves to the particular volume of material to be conveyed between zero and a maximum and apply the necessary pressure on the cover belt (3) in the process.

  • Patent number: 5890304
Abstract: A level boom is provided for a piece of strip mining equipment traveling on caterpillar-type chassis, which piece of equipment is temporarily moved on oblique roadways during operation. The position of the boom in relation to the skeletal structure is corrected with simple means. A piece of strip mining equipment with a boom, which can be lifted and lowered and at the free end of which, e.g., a bucket wheel for picking up a load is arranged, is connected to the substructure of the piece of equipment in a pivot axis. The lifting movement is brought about by a lifting cylinder. A tilting support, which carries the boom, is arranged in the pivot axis for lifting and lowering the boom. A bolt connection is provided on one side in the pivot axis for leveling between the tilting support and the boom, and the actuating element for leveling as well as a step bearing for absorbing lateral forces which the actuating element is unable to absorb, are located on the other side.

  • Patent number: 5810449
Abstract: The operative members in open pit mining apparatus, designed as strata cutting and loading machines are exposed to high wear and tear in practical operation. The cutter tools (3) are so designed that those picks (5) which are cutting are in their operating position while the picks (5) for the other working direction are swivelled out of the cutting orbit. They must be robust and always functional. Pick holders armed with picks (5) are therefore pivotally disposed on hinges on both sides in the direction of rotation on the cutter bars (1) arranged on the circumference of the cutting drum. Two pick holders on opposite sides, form a pair. These are interconnected in articulated manner by a bar of such length that one pick (5) can perform its winning action while the other pick (5) is angularly displaced out of the groove being cut. Due to the excavating resistance, the cutter tools (3a and 3b) automatically assume their operating position. A two-way latch is provided for fixation in either operating position.
