    Abstract: The invention proposes an electrical image producing device for use with printing image carriers of printing presses. The main components of the device are writing units designed in the form of electrodes which are able to be activated individually in accordance with the image to be produced by connection with a power supply. In the case of a purely electrical form of the device the writing units consist of a stylus which is able to be connected with the power supply via a photoconductor. For driving the stylus use is made of a light guide on which there is a magneto-optic light switching module controlled by current pulses. In one switched state the light switching module allows the passage of a light ray from a light source through the light guide, the light ray passing through the photoconductor and making it locally electrically conducting.

    Abstract: A thermally insulating lining for the housing of a heater system for a Stirling, or hot air engine ensures that only safe temperature will be reached on the outside of the heater system. The insulating lining is arranged in two parts. An insulating wall is made up of individually adjacentely placed, replaceable insulating elements in the form of ceramic tiles, and/or ceramic tubes, and an intermediate space between the tiles and the outer wall. The intermediate space is separated, if desired, from the insulating elements by a ceramic paper. The intermediate space is packed with ceramic fiber batts, or loose, lump ceramic insulating material.

    Abstract: A method for controlling the combustion air ratios for IC engines using a three way catalyst. In known systems the control operation has been impaired by several factors, one being the aging of the lambda probe used for control. In order to allow for such factors the set point of the controller is adjusted under certain conditions or at certain intervals. For the adjustment of the set point the increase in the exhaust gas temperature as caused by the exothermic reaction in the catalyst is measured and employed for establishing a new set point.

    Abstract: A method for the automatic control of the setting of spinning rolls in relation to a cylindrical, tubular workpiece in an opposed roll spinning lathe with four pairs of rolls. Each of the four pairs of rolls consists of one inner roll and one outer roll each, of which is arranged on a holder on a carrier so as to be radially adjustable in relation to the workpiece and so that the pairs of rolls are arranged at equal circumferential spacing about the workpiece so that the roll pair acting as the first rolling stage is placed diametrically opposite the second roll pair operating as the second rolling stage, the roll pair operating as the third rolling stage is offset by 90.degree. in relation to the first roll pair and is diametrically opposite the roll pair operating as the fourth rolling stage so that during the spinning rolling process the pairs of rolls and the workpiece perform a translatory and a rotary motion and furthermore the radial forces acting on the rolls are continuously measured.

On the basis of the results of measurement and the geometrical relationships of the test strips and of the test edges arising owing to double printing phenomena the degree of double print offset may be determined.     Abstract: The invention relates to a surface printing press with a printed image carrier having an image thereon corresponding to the matter to be printed on paper or the like. The image on the printed image carrier is in the form of hydrophilic and hydrophobic areas. In order to be able to modify the extents and positions of these areas on the press directly and thus reduce press idle times the printed image carrier is made of a material such as polymer whose said areas may be changed over dotwise between the said hydrophilic and hydrophobic conditions by electrical effects taking place in an electrochemical process with one electrode being formed by the plate cylinder and the counter-electrode being formed by a roller bearinged for rotation in an electrolyte container. One of the two electrodes is in the form of matrix and is operated so as to produce a pattern of dots.

    Abstract: The invention provides a method for the production by welding of a heat exchanger pipe starting with a round metallic pipe onto which external metallic fins are secured so as to be perpendicular to the axis of the pipe. Each metallic fin is produced in two halves in such a manner each fin has a coxial semicircular recess or bay whose radius mateches the external diameter of the metallic pipe and on each side of such recess there are two side surfaces so that after mounting the fin halves on the pipe there is a small gap at the parting line between the two halves. After mounting the two fin halves on the metallic pipe the respectively radially outer and parts of the gap are spot welded together and on cooling down the fin the fins shrinkage at the weld spots causes the two fin halves to pressed on the pipe with their recess boundaries engaging the outer surface of the pipe.

The result is the avoidance of excessively rapid conduction away of the heat input from a pressing head which would otherwise be likely to interfere with a precisely delimited transfer of an oleophilic layer or to generally prevent the application of such a layer.

    Abstract: In the context of a device for directing optical rays along a given path comprising a ray deflecting means there is a pivoting ray exit member, which simultaneously pivotally entrains the deflecting mirror and is arranged to pivot with the mirror about a third axis. The ray exit member is able to pivot about a first axis and the mirror pivots about a second axis and both are mounted on a rotary housing. The first and the second axes are parallel to each other and are located in the reflecting surface of the mirror. By means of a threaded rod and a return spring the ray exit member is turned and its pivoting motion is transmitted via an abutment to the mirror. The distance of the abutment from the first axis is half the size of the distance from the second axis in order thus to pivot the mirror through an angle which is half as large as the pivotal sweep of the ray exit member with the result that the central ray setting in the small exit opening is adhered to.

The crank shaft and linking members only serve to synchronize the working cycles of the engine and are therefore only designed for light duty.
