Abstract: A customer self ordering system is provided for a retail sales store that reduces labor costs, increases efficiency, facilitates managerial tasks and improves customer service. The system provides one or more clusters, each of which is usually operated by a single employee. At least two customer ordering terminals are included with each cluster. A customer enters an order by manipulating a touch screen at each customer ordering terminal. Software for running the customer ordering terminals is designed to be self-teaching, while the proximity of the customer terminal to a cashier terminal at the cluster permits easy customer access of employees for assistance. Terminals may be provided in order preparation areas for displaying customer orders. Additionally, the system operates several managerial subroutines, and the system can accumulate all order data quickly and efficiently for accounting purposes.

Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for facilitating self-ordering of items, particularly in a fast food environment. The apparatus includes a customer terminal having a display screen that is preferably a touch screen used by the customer during the self-ordering operation. The screen displays information that assists the customer in becoming acquainted with the self-ordering process. Subsequent screens display information relating to the selection of food items. Indicia on the display screen represents food items for selection. Such food items are arranged according to food categories. In accordance with one display, indicia representing primary category food items, such as sandwiches, are shown on the screen. One or more of such food items can be selected by the customer using the displayed indicia, such as by touching the screen. This same display includes indicia representing a number of menus for secondary food items, such as salads, desserts and drinks.

Abstract: An integrated customer self-order microprocessor based system for the placement of orders, the filling of orders and the management of day to day operations in a fast food restaurant setting. The system includes one or more customer input stations, a cashier station, a manager station and a food preparation station. Optionally, the system may include a runner station and a consolidation station. The customer and cashier stations include a microprocessor terminal equipped with a touch screen interactive input device.
