Patent number: 9516346Abstract: A system and method for processing an image is provided. The system includes an encoder configured to subdivide the image into N subregions. The value of N is computed based upon a spatial resolution of the image, a granularity value and a level of wavelet decomposition. The encoder is configured to perform wavelet decomposition on each of the N subregions. The system includes memory circuitry configured to store image data resulting from the decomposition for later transmission.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2009Date of Patent: December 6, 2016Assignee: MANIPAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGYInventors: Manohara Pai M.M, Karunakar Annappa Kotegar

Patent number: 9196047Abstract: A method, system, and computer-readable medium for determining a number of mycobacteria in source image data of a sputum-smear sample are provided. First image data is extracted from the source image data of the sputum-smear sample. Binary image data is created from the extracted first image data. A plurality of groups of blobs is identified in the created binary image data. A distance between a pair of the identified plurality of groups of blobs is determined. If the distance is below a threshold value, the pair is combined as a single group of blobs. The determining is repeated for pairs of the identified plurality of groups of blobs, and the remaining groups of blobs are then classified.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2010Date of Patent: November 24, 2015Assignee: MANIPAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGYInventors: Ramesh R. Patent number: 8929622Abstract: A method includes determining, with a computing device, one or more of a hue value, a saturation value, and an intensity value of a pixel in a region of interest of an image of a blood vessel sample. A physical response of the blood vessel sample to a vaso-active agent is determined based at least in part on one or more of the hue value, the saturation value, and the intensity value.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2009Date of Patent: January 6, 2015Assignee: Manipal Institute of TechnologyInventors: Ramesh R. Publication number: 20120161891Abstract: Techniques are generally described herein related to filters including first operational transconductance amplifier (first OTA) and a second operational transconductance amplifier (second OTA). In some examples described herein, the first OTA and second OTA have substantially the same transconductance. The first and second OTAs can be configured to realize filters such as first-order all-pass filters, second-order all-pass filters, higher-order all-pass filters, and quadrature oscillators.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2010Publication date: June 28, 2012Applicant: MANIPAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGYInventors: Dattaguru. Publication number: 20120031120Abstract: A method and system for liquid purification and defrosting a freezing unit harvests energy released as heat from a condenser. Liquid received from a source into a first liquid storage container is heated using heat collected from the condenser using at least one heat conducting rod. A second liquid storage container connected to the first liquid storage container is maintained at a lower temperature than the first liquid storage container. As a first portion of heated liquid is transferred from the first liquid storage container to the second liquid storage container, bacteria in the first portion of heated liquid is denatured as a result of the temperature change, and the liquid is purified. Filters may also be used to improve purification. A second portion of heated liquid is transferred between the first liquid storage container and a freezing unit via at least one heat conducting pipe causing defrosting of the freezing unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2011Publication date: February 9, 2012Applicant: MANIPAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGYInventors: Mayank Swarup, Tanvi Gupta
