Abstract: An apparatus for continuously casting metal for obtaining a substantially flat casting includes a vessel having a bottom opening defined by side walls and by a rear wall and a tiltable front wall, the rear and front walls ending at different levels so that the bottom opening has a horizontal as well as a vertical component; a planar metal, endless belt is disposed underneath the opening and defines a casting gap together with the front wall, the more downwardly extending rear wall in conjunction with that casting gap deflects casting material from a down flow directly into the horizontal; a meniscus seals the rear wall against the belt; the belt is spray cooled from below.

Abstract: The print head is mounted on a carriage which, in turn, rides on a round bar which is transversely adjustable towards and away from the parallel running platen. The round bar rolls in horizontal oblong slots in side walls of the frame and has short, drum-shaped cams eccentrically connected to its ends, the cams being coaxial to each other and are held individually in abutment with reference surfaces that are individually adjustable on these side walls towards true parallelism; an adjusting lever is affixed to a third cam on the bar, and is coaxial to the two other cams, which lever is latchable in positions to thereby hold adjusted distances of the print head from the platen.

Abstract: A method for continuous casting of steel in a horizontal casting mode and using a cycle being comprised of an extraction stroke, a holding period, a retraction stroke and another holding period, the retraction speed, the retraction length and the holding period between an extraction stroke and a retraction stroke are maintained constant; and extraction speed and extraction length as well as the holding period between a retraction stroke and the next following extraction stroke are varied for adaptive purposes.
Abstract: Cold rolled steel strip is uncoiled, cleaned, and passed into an annealing furnace, wherein the strip is heated to and held at a relatively hot temperature, subsequently quenched, and coiled; after a period of storage the strip passes through the same equipment but now including additional pickling for removing an oxide layer, and the strip passes through the annealing furnace a second time, while operating said annealing furnace for heating to and holding at a lower temperature to obtain aging; thereafter the strip is coiled again.
Abstract: A method of making tubing and pipes for conduction in the oil and gas industry or for use as drillpipes, wherein such tubing is connected at both ends with connector sleeves by means of welding, the welding seam being deburred thereafter. The steel used for the tubing, pipes or drill pipes as well as for the connector sleeves has the following composition, all percentages by weight, between 0.2 and 0.6% carbon, between 0.5 and 1.8% manganese, between 0.5 and 3.5% combined chromium and molybdenum, not more than 0.2% phosphorus and not more than 0.005% sulphur.
Abstract: A metallurgical vessel having a closed bottom such as a steel converter is brick-lined by using a work area and platform being suspended for lifting and lowering into the vessel and carrying structure for distributing lining bricks along the periphery of that platform; delivery equipment is separately and removably affixed to the upper and lower sides of said work area and platform, so that in various, combinations the bottom, the wall and the transition between bottom and wall can be lined.
Abstract: Matrix printers exhibit the tendency to develop electrostatic charges on account of various movements in sliding contact between the print medium such as paper on one hand and the transport device and print styli or hammer on the other hand. In order to eliminate these charges the traction means for transporting the paper is driven by a drive shaft which is held in electrical insulation from the transport device but is electrically connected through a paper support structure which is in turn is electrically connected to a connecting rod completing a frame structure for the transport device.
Abstract: A device for lifting and lowering a rail track section in between two rail tracks mounted in different vertical levels and including an elevator carrying the rail track section is improved by means of a latching structure at each end of that section, each including a rotatable latch element with rounded ends, for cooperating with abutment and counter latch surfaces respectively at ends of the rail tracks, at least an upper one of the tracks has passage ways and openings for the latch element to pass through from below; and the latch elements are keyed together for turning so that they will rest on the respective counter latch surfaces and thereby hold the rail track section in an aligned disposition for one or the other of the two rail tracks.
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling the oscillations of a mold for continuous casting of metal, the mold being mounted on a table which is connected, in turn, to three spaced apart drives and three load relief springs; three displacement path transducers track each of the drives; a source of reference signals provides reference signals representing the desired oscillation, as to contour, amplitude and rate; actual and reference signals are compared by and in stages which provide correction signals for the drives.

Abstract: A principal or main conveyer cooperates with branch conveyers in that diverting wheels are provided for pivoting to the left or right as well as for lowering and raising, for obtaining selectivity of diverting.
Abstract: The rolls of a universal type mill stand are adjusted by moving the lower horizontal roll into position, directly or iteratively, by shifting the upper horizontal roll axially under utilization of the vertical rolls. In the case of conical rolls the latter operation is included in the iteration to obtain minimum spacing between the vertical rolls. The position of all rolls under rolling pressure serves as reference for further adjustment towards dimensions of the stock.
Abstract: A mold for continuous casting is changed for changing the dimensions of the casting, by, selecting a casting speed during a change of the mold dimensions which is not lower than the one prior to the change; one or both small mold walls are tilted each about an axis below the low end of the respective wall, the mold wall is then parallel shifted, the shifting to begin before the final tilting is completed; thereafter the mold wall is tilted back about an axis coinciding with a surface level of molten material in the mold, the back tilting begins before the lateral shifting ends.
Abstract: An electro furnace for metallurgic operations has its top connected to a vertically extending cylinder, into which a charge pipe leads at an oblique angle. A ceramic plug glides in the cylinder in piston like fashion for selective opening and closing the opening from said charge pipe. Any burden and ore mixture will therefore fall freely from the charge pipe whenever the plug is shifted up to open the gate.

Abstract: A trolley is provided as a carriage with rollers running on a rail, and a cable suspension in form of a flexible loop element is suspended from this trolley carriage. The loop element has its end interconnected in the area of suspension, and carries in its lower portion a curved cable supporting platform against which the cable is fastened by means of a flexible clamping band extending through lateral slots of the loop element.
Abstract: The internal geometry of tubes or pipes are tested by a measuring mandrel normally held in an adapter sleeve provided for end to end abutment with the tube or pipe to be tested; pressurized air is applied to the adapter sleeve to obtain the propelling of the measuring mandrel out of the adapter sleeve sleeve and into and through that tube or pipe; a tape, cable or rope is fastened to the mandrel and also wound on a drum to be unreeled therefrom as the mandrel is propelled through the tube or pipe to be tested; the drum is driven by a reversible drive operated for break operation tending to retard the mandrel and further provided for reversing permitting retraction of the mandrel back into the adapter sleeve after the pressure has been removed.
Abstract: A metallurgical vessel is usually mounted in a annulus or the like by means of which the vessel can be tilted; however occasionally the vessel has to be removed from the annulus; accordingly a plurality of tension means are articulated by means of spherical bearings to the upper side of the annulus being comprised of a plurality of wires in the upper part with a hinge element and a tension head in the lower part; claw elements are affixed to the vessel and have lateral openings through which the tension head can be laterally inserted due to the articulation and/or the hinging; the head will lodge behind the claw element and can be tightened by means of a tension nut.
Abstract: Control signals are transmitted to and from a vehicle in that stationary transducers are mounted on a parallelogram suspension for a collector line in a particular relation thereto, while a complementary and cooperating transducer is mounted next to a collector shoe on a vehicle, so that the collector line adjustment is used to ensure particular alignment of the transducers when passing.
