  • Patent number: 4975002
Abstract: There is disclosed a boring tool which exhibits a cutting head with several cutting plates arranged on the periphery of the cutting head. Each of the cutting plates are pressable with a fastening device against a shoulder of the cutting head. The distances of the cutting plates from the longitudinal axis of the cutting head are slightly different. The cutting heads are staggered with respect to one another in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The cutting plates (1, 2, 3) are formed in a circular shape and are arranged so that the force exerted during operation of the cutting head by the cutting plates compensate each other. The effective cutting edge sections, projecting in an axial plane, continually blend into one another. The boring tool is particularly suitable as a fine boring tool for the production of precision bores.

  • Patent number: 4971483
Abstract: A cutter plate is provided for precision working, especially of holes, which is constructed as a symmetrical polygon with at least four corners and has at least one main cutting edge and one auxiliary cutting edge, as well as a projection which begins at the chip run-off surface of the cutting edges, whose sides serve as chip-guiding steps and whose boundary lines circumscribe a symmetrical polygon, whose shape corresponds to that of the cutter plate, and has smaller dimensions than the latter, so that, starting from the corner regions of the polygon, the width of the chip run-off surfaces decreases. The cutter plate is distinguished by the fact that each chip run-off surface has a plane shape and is inclined in the direction of its longitudinal extension by an angle in such a way that the narrowest region is at the greatest height and is arranged to be above the neighboring chip run-off surface, so that it can be manufactured very simply and economically by a grinding procedure.

  • Patent number: 4954024
Abstract: A precision boring tool for the machining of inner faces of bores with at least one cutting plate, supported by a bracing claw, is disclosed. The cutting plate (2) is tilted versus the plane running through the cutting edge (11) of the cutting plate (2) and the longitudinal axis (17) of the precision boring tool (1). Thus, the bracing claw (3) can be disposed such that it does not protrude into the chip space (4).

  • Patent number: 4792264
Abstract: The cutter head of a reamer carries a circular tool bit and two guide members. Each guide member has an outer-most edge at the furthest distance from the center of rotation of the tool and slanted edges inclined at progressively greater angles from the outer edge towards the front of the tool where the initial cut takes place. The first slanted edge, at an angle of less than 10 degrees and preferably between 3 and 5 degrees, intersects the outer-most edge at a point which lags the extreme point on the tool bit by about 0.4 mm in the direction of advance of the tool. The first slanted edge extends at least to the radial plane containing the extreme point of the tool bit. Thereafter, a slanted edge at an angle inclined between 15 and 25 degrees extends in the forward direction, to be followed by a third slanted edge inclined at an angle to the outer-most edge of between 30 and 75 degrees.

  • Patent number: 4611959
Abstract: Adjustment of the radial position of the tool bit is accomplished by insertion of the bit in a recess of a clamping shoe which clamps the bit against a shoulder in the cutter head. The clamping shoe has an extension which is rotatably mounted in a recess in the cutter head. A single wedge-shaped adjustment member rotates the clamping shoe with the cutter blade thereby changing the radial distance between the cutting edge and the axis of rotation of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4596498
Abstract: The operating life of the two guide members in a single bit reamer is increased by shaping the peripheral surface of the guide members with a radius of curvature less than the radius of the bore being machined. Contact between each guide member and the bore wall takes place only along a central quest area extending in the lengthwise direction of each guide member. This allows coating of the peripheral surfaces of the guide members with a hard, wear resistant material. Further, the guide members may be fastened to the cutter head by means of a screw situated in a groove extending in the tangential direction along the peripheral surface of each guide member. This increases the lubricating and cooling effect.

  • Patent number: 4571130
Abstract: A guide member is removably, but self lockingly, mounted on a cutter head. The cutter head has a dovetailed recess which receives the guide member. One side of the recess has bores which accommodate elastic elements which protrude into the recess. Friction coupling between the guide member and the elastic elements prevents axial movement of the guide member.

  • Patent number: 4200418
Abstract: The cutting head and shank of a floating reamer are connected for joint rotation about the shank axis and limited radial movement of the head on the shank by a reduced axial end portion of the shank being spacedly enveloped by an annular axial flange on the head and fastened to the flange by a pin diametrically passing through a bore in the end portion of the shank which is lined with a tubular ball bearing. • Patent number: 4125342
Abstract: The rotating cutter head of a reamer is formed with a recess, open in a radially outward direction and one circumferential direction relative to the axis of rotation, and a blade is retained in the recess between opposite, radially extending faces of the head and of a clamping shoe that may be adjusted inward of the recess. Two face portions of the blade are engaged by the respective faces of the head and shoe in area contact in planes which converge in a radially outward direction at a small acute angle to prevent movement of the blade from an initial, radially adjusted position under cutting stress.
