Patent number: 6216719Abstract: A safety system for transfer of pressurized fluid between a cargo tank vehicle and a storage container. A pump or compressor on the cargo vehicle is in fluid communication with the cargo tank, the pump being powered by the vehicle. A pump valve on the vehicle between the tank and the vehicle pump will interrupt fluid passing into the pump. A delivery hose having a first end in fluid communication with the pump and a second end in fluid communication with the storage container transfers the pressurized fluid between the pump and storage container. A first pressure sensor senses pressurized fluid in the delivery hose near the hose second end. A first switch activated by the first pressure sensor closes the pump valve and interrupts the fluid flow. A second pressure sensor senses pressure near the hose first end. A second switch activated by pressure from the second pressure sensor closes the pump valve and interrupts fluid flow.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1999Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Assignee: Mapco, Inc.Inventor: Daniel R. Patent number: 4331025Abstract: A method of measuring the flow rate of a fluid through a conduit by means of a sonic flow meter employing the steps of measuring the speed of sound transmission through the fluid from an upstream point in the conduit to an opposed downstream point, measuring the speed of sound transmission through the fluid from the downstream point to the upstream point, subtracting the two measurements to obtain a liquid flow rate indication, adding the two measurements to obtain the fluid sound velocity, measuring the temperature of the fluid in the conduit, determining a measurement of the fluid viscosity from the fluid speed of sound transmission and the temperature, and correcting the determined fluid velocity utilizing the detected fluid viscosity.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1980Date of Patent: May 25, 1982Assignee: Mapco, Inc.Inventor: Robinson Ord, Jr.

Patent number: 4240908Abstract: A cell for coalescing oil droplets dispersed in a water emulsion including an elongated perforated tube core into which the emulsion is injected, layers of oleophilic plastic covered metal mat wound about the core through which the emulsion is forced to pass, the fibers of the metal mat being covered by oleophilic plastic such as vinyl, acrylic, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, the metal being in the form of layers of expanded metal or metal fibers, either aluminum or stainless steel. In manufacturing the cell a helix wound wire is formed around the cylindrical plastic coated metal to retain it in place and resist pressure drop of fluid flowing through the metal fibers. In addition, the preferred arrangement includes the use of an outer sleeve formed of a mat of fibrous material such as polyester fibers, acrylic fibers, modacrylic fibers and mixtures thereof.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1977Date of Patent: December 23, 1980Assignee: Mapco, Inc.Inventors: Robert J.
