Abstract: A system for treating liquid containing waste material which includes a reaction vessel for treating other material to achieve a reaction which includes the formation of hot gases. The system includes a dryer adapted to receive the hot gases from the reaction vessel, and these hot gases are introduced to the dryer for heating the waste material to a temperature in excess of the boiling point of the liquid in the waste material. The waste material is circulated within the dryer to maximize the exposure of the waste material to the heat in the hot gases. Waste gas generated by the boiling of the liquid is withdrawn from the dryer, and a solid portion of the waste material is discharged from the dryer and delivered to the reaction vessel. This solid portion provides at least some of the fuel value required for operating the heating means of the reaction vessel.
Abstract: Apparatus and method for incinerating toxic and non-toxic waste using a modified preheater-type lime kiln is disclosed wherein the kiln is modified to incinerate waste and the preheater section is modified to provide an incineration processing aid such as limestone and also to more efficiently utilize and conserve heat values.
Abstract: A system including a method and apparatus for incinerating toxic and non-toxic waste materials. The system involves the use of a pre-treatment agent which is capable of insuring flowability in the waste materials to be incinerated. The agent is mixed with the material and then introduced to a rotary kiln which is fired to a temperature such that incineration of the material will occur by providing a satisfactory rate of material flow through the kiln. The kiln includes a rotary scoop feeder which is utilized for introducing the mixture of material and agent into a hot zone of the kiln. An afterburner may be utilized for decomposing materials such as hazardous organic wastes, and the output of the apparatus may be associated with a baghouse.

Abstract: A method for recycling iron values such as the iron which is present in the iron oxide, primarily Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4 found in millscale and other fine or waste materials containing oxides of iron. The method is applicable to basic oxygen refining operations wherein iron is charged to the basic oxygen furnace along with a flux. The method can also be applied to other iron or steel-making furnaces. In accordance with the invention, a portion of the flux charged to the furnace is prepared by forming a mixture of iron or iron containing particles with the balance comprising dolomite, the mixture including sufficient iron values such that the product after calcination will contain in excess of 20 percent and up to 50 percent by weight iron values, calculated as Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3. The mixture is heated in a kiln to a temperature in excess of 2000.degree. F. whereby reaction products such as calcium and magnesium ferrites are formed and make up a substantial portion of the mixture.
