Abstract: A solid state switching arrangement includes a transmission line which acts as a primary transformer loop and acts with secondary windings carried by switching modules to apply triggering signals to the switches. The arrangement may include greater than sixty modules.
Abstract: In a multistage collector used in a linear beam tube such as an IOT or klystron, electrode stages are separated by ceramic rings having metallised surfaces to provide distributed bypass capacitors. This eliminates or reduces leakage or any radio frequency energy from the interior of the collector to the outside.

Abstract: A capacitor includes a conductive tube, covered by insulating material and a layer of conductive material located at the central part of the tube. The geometry presents a low inherent inductance and a continuous, distributed conductance. The capacitor may be used as a bypass capacitor in an IOT amplifier to reduce stray and leakage high frequency radiation, in one amplifier being located within the inner wall of an annular input cavity.
Abstract: Power limiting apparatus for use in a sensitive receiving system includes a gas-filled coaxial hermetically sealed line. The inner conductor includes a central region of reduced diameter connected to a metallisation layer between the inner and outer conductors. An annular gap electrically isolates the outer regions of the metallisation. When excess energy enters the device, gas breakdown occurs across the gap to produce a plasma which reflects the excess energy and prevents it travelling onward to sensitive receiver stages.
Abstract: In a switching arrangement for applying a pulse to a load, for example a magnetron, a plurality of FET modules are stacked along the longitudinal axis and surrounded by a housing enclosing four capacitors. The capacitor means provides a current return path for current applied via the FET switches of the modules the coaxial current cancelling construction of the arrangement results in low circuiting conductance. The capacitance may be sufficiently large to provide electrostatic screening.
