  • Patent number: 6895655
Abstract: A wireless communication device coupled to a wave antenna that provides greater increased durability and impedance matching. The wave antenna is a conductor that is bent in alternating sections to form peaks and valleys. The wireless communication device is coupled to the wave antenna to provide wireless communication with other communication devices, such as an interrogation reader. The wireless communication device and wave antenna may be placed on objects, goods, or other articles of manufacture that are subject to forces such that the wave antenna may be stretched or compressed during the manufacture and/or use of such object, good or article of manufacture. The wave antenna, because of its bent structure, is capable of stretching and compressing more easily than other structures, reducing the wireless communication device's susceptibility to damage or breaks that might render the wireless communication device coupled to the wave antenna unable to properly communicate information wirelessly.

  • Patent number: 6853345
Abstract: The wireless communication device contains at least one conductive tab that provides an antenna. The tab(s) form a pole antenna, and the tabs may also be attached across a slot to form a slot antenna. The tab(s) may be attached across a slot created in a package to form a slot antenna, or the tab(s) may be attached to a slot that is created as part of the wireless communication device to form a slot antenna. The tab(s) and/or the slot may also contain an adhesive material to attach the wireless communication device to a package, container or other material. More than one slot may be provided to form a circularly polarized antenna. The carrier may be a conductive material in which tabs are formed as part of the carrier before the wireless communication device is attached. The wireless communication device may have an asymmetrical antenna arrangement.

  • Patent number: 6847912
Abstract: A remote communication device, that receives temperature indicia concerning a container and/or its contents and communicates such temperature indicia along with an identification indicia to a reader. The remote communication device can measure and communicate temperature indicia associated with a container in a periodic manner. The remote communication device can also measure and communicate temperature indicia associated with a container when such temperature indicia exceed a certain minimum or maximum threshold temperature. The remote communication device can also include power circuitry to store energy when energized in the range of an interrogation reader so that the remote communication device can be powered for temperature indicia measurements when not in the range of an interrogation reader.

  • Patent number: 6828941
Abstract: A wireless communication device that communicates using a pole antenna in a first mode and a slot antenna in a second mode. The wireless communication device contains at least one conductive tab antenna. The tab(s) form a pole antenna, and the tabs may also be attached across a slot to form a slot antenna. The wireless communication device can communicate at different frequencies using the pole antenna in a first mode and the slot antenna in a second mode. The tab(s) may be attached across a slot created in a package to form a slot antenna, or the tab(s) may be attached to a slot that is created as part of the wireless communication device to form a slot antenna.

  • Patent number: 6806842
Abstract: A compact disc coupled to a wireless communication device comprises the disc with a metalized outer portion, a wireless communication chip and a pair of tabs. The first tab may capacitively couple the wireless communication chip to the metalized portion of the disc. The second tab may be positioned in an inner portion of the disc with a gap delimited by the metalized portion and the second tab. A slot antenna is thus formed through which the wireless communication device may communicate. Wireless communication chip allows disc to be interrogated and identified for a variety of purposes, including, but not limited to security, advertising and promotion, and issuing of related coupons to customers for subsequent purchases.

  • Patent number: 6778088
Abstract: An identification device for mounting within a container that includes a chamber positioned within an interior section and an access opening within an outer surface of the container and in communication with the chamber. The identification device includes a wireless communication device and a mounting unit. The mounting unit is positioned around the wireless communication device and is selectively positionable from a first orientation in which the wireless communication device and mounting unit are sized to extend through the access opening and a second expanded orientation larger than the width of the access opening. The invention also includes a monitoring system having at least one interrogation point for communicating with the identification device.
