Patents Assigned to Maritime Telecommunications Network, Inc.
  • Patent number: 9210102
Abstract: A bandwidth allocation and quality control system interacts with a manifest for a mobile communication platform (MCP), to identify specific IP addresses designated for bandwidth guarantees and corresponding a particular passenger of the MCP. The system monitors IP addresses of packets communicated between the MCP and a machine communication network external to the MCP, and compares the IP addresses of the packets to the IP addresses corresponding to the particular passenger, and if the packets are from the particular passenger and match one of the corresponding IP addresses, and if a limited duration event is underway for the MCP, to communicate the packets to the external machine network with a bandwidth guarantee.

  • Patent number: 9209985
Abstract: A process for modifying application logic includes establishing a communication connection between the application logic or passenger devices aboard a moving vessel, and control logic aboard the moving vessel. The control logic monitors factors affecting latency of communications to or from the application logic to a network external to the vessel. Features of the application logic are modified to change between free to use and a payment model for use, according to the factors affecting latency. The feature modifications made only to particular application logic of a group of associated application logic on multiple passenger devices.

  • Patent number: 9185603
Abstract: A process for managing satellite bandwidth available to a moving vessel includes configuring a satellite to associate the vessel with a group of multiple vessels; configuring the satellite to guarantee a committed information rate (CIR) bandwidth to the vessel and to associate a maximum information rate (MIR) with the vessel, and to combine the CIR of the vessel into a CIR bandwidth pool for the group of vessels, and to combine the MIR of the vessel into a MIR bandwidth pool for the group of vessels, and to provide the vessel with a priority burst rate up to the combined CIR bandwidth of the group of vessels, and to provide the vessel with a burst rate up to the combined MIR bandwidth of the group of vessels, conditional on availability of bandwidth beyond the combined CIR bandwidth of the group of vessels; and re-configuring the satellite to release the guarantee of CIR bandwidth for the vessel upon the vessel gaining access to a terrestrial network connection of higher speed than the satellite connection.

  • Patent number: 9112578
Abstract: A process of transferring data files between a source machine system and a destination machine system includes assigning a transfer time deadline to the data files. As the time deadline approaches or is reached, checking a vehicle route schedule to determine if the data files can be transferred to a vehicle that will be within wireless communication range of the source machine system before the transfer time deadline and which will traverse a route that will bring the vehicle within wireless communication range of the destination machine or an intermediate store and forward relay station. If the data files can be transferred to the vehicle that will be within wireless communication range of the source machine system before the transfer time deadline and which will traverse a route that will bring the vehicle within wireless communication range of the destination machine or an intermediate store and forward relay station, transferring the files to the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9078105
Abstract: A system includes a mobile communication platform (MCP) with logic to record network performance data along a first route taken by the MCP. The system includes logic to track one or more of MCP location, heading, or speed as MCP circumstances, and to apply the network performance data to predict application usage by passengers aboard the MCP along a second route taken by the MCP. The MCP circumstances may include a time of day, day of the week, calendar date, or weather conditions. The system may adjust a course, speed, or location of the MCP based on the predicted application usage.

  • Publication number: 20130076567
Abstract: A system, methods, and apparatus for dual antenna transfer switching are disclosed. In an example embodiment, a dual antenna system includes antennas, antenna control units, a transfer switch, and a modem. For example, the transfer switch may transfer a connection between antennas based on changing satellite visibility, upon entering a preprogrammed blockage zone or an unexpected loss of satellite visibility. The transfer switch may receive GPS data from an external GPS unit and/or the antenna control units and buffer the GPS data to a modem. The transfer switch may provide a modem receive-lock signal to retarget a line of sight. The transfer switch may transfer the connection between the antennas based on satellite visibility including signal reception quality and/or a modem receive-lock status. The transfer switch may, based on a difference in antenna uplink transmission power, attenuate a higher power antenna to be balanced with a lower power antenna.
