    Abstract: A modified fluid delivery cartridge. A conventional straight-sided high pressure cartridge case is primed and then filled with solid propellant. A burst cup is inserted in the case mouth. The burst cup is preferably embossed with a cross or other shape to promote predictable rupture. A charge casing is provided which opens into a high pressure cartridge receiver bounded by an inner charge casing wall. The inner charge casing wall is provided with a step, in which the diameter of the high pressure cartridge receiver is reduced. The high pressure cartridge case is pressed into the receiver in the charge casing wall. As the high pressure cartridge case is being pressed into place, the straight wall of the case passes over the step in the inner charge casing wall, which deforms the straight wall to form a neck. This neck captured the burst cup within the high pressure cartridge case.

    Abstract: A modular hand grenade design that permits the use of compressed powders such as A-5. The hand grenade body is split into two main components—a base/sleeve and a nose cap. These two main components contain the explosive. They are loaded with explosive while still separate. The explosive is loaded into the base/sleeve and compressed to form a solid. A core sleeve is attached to the base to form a void inside the explosive where the detonating portion of a fuse assembly can be placed. Explosive is likewise loaded into the nose cap and compressed to form a solid. The nose cap is attached to the base/sleeve assembly. A fuse assembly is then attached to complete the grenade.

The projectile includes an aft closure having a cavity filled with gas generating material. The gas generating material is ignited around the time the projectile exits the weapon's muzzle. The gas generating material then burns while the projectile is in flight, spewing pressurized gas into the wake region immediately behind the projectile. The pressurized gas reduces the projectile's base drag.

    Abstract: A modified projectile round which is configured to function with a propellant cartridge such as described in U.S. Pat. No. 7,004,074. The projectile assembly uses a High-Low gas pressure cartridge to launch the projectile. When the high pressure cartridge is ignited, hot propellant gases rupture a burst cup and shoot propellant gases toward the aft end of the projectile. The hot propellant gases impinge against a delay carrier located in the aft end of the projectile. The contents of the delay carrier are thereby ignited. The delay carrier includes one or more delay columns ultimately terminating in an igniter charge. The delay columns burn as the projectile is in flight. A specified amount of time later, the igniter charge ignites an ignitable payload—such as a marker flare candle.

    Abstract: A modified gas delivery cartridge. A conventional straight-sided brass cartridge case is primed and then filled with solid propellant. A burst cup is then inserted in the case mouth. The burst cup is embossed with a cross or other shape to promote predictable rupture. Once the burst cup is in place, the upper edges of the cartridge case are rolled over the burst cup. In operation, the propellant is ignited to produce pressure within the sealed case. This pressure builds steadily until the embossed cross in the burst cup ruptures. The propellant gases are then vented in a metered fashion through the ruptured burst cup. However, the burst cup is retained by the case so that no solid object escapes the high pressure cartridge. In addition, by carefully designing the shape of the burst cup and the components surrounding it, it is possible to create an efficient expansion nozzle to better meter the propellant gases.

    Abstract: A distraction device is comprised of a hollow container that is divided into a first chamber and a second chamber. An explosive charge capable of producing a loud sound and a brilliant flash of light fills the second chamber. A standard M201 hand grenade fuse is installed in the distraction device so that the fuse is in communication with the first chamber. The fuse initiates the sequential ignition of several combustible compositions in the distraction device. A first combustible composition generates a combustion gas of sufficient pressure in the first chamber to separate the expended fuse from the distraction device before the device explodes. The first composition also ignites a combustible time-delay composition, which in turn ignites a spark-producing composition that detonates an explosive output charge. Separation of the fuse from the distraction device before the explosive charge is detonated prevents the fuse from becoming a lethal projectile.

    Abstract: An air conditioner control system comprises an air conditioner which includes a heating unit, a cooling unit and an internal thermostat, a switch unit for activating the air conditioner and a sensor unit for controlling operation of the switch unit. The sensor unit includes a sound level detecting circuit and an air temperature level detecting circuit and is positioned so as to sense the sound level and temperature level in the room in which the air conditioner is installed.In operation, if the sound level rises above a threshold associated with occupancy of the room, the air conditioner is activated and the heating and cooling units are controlled by the internal thermostat. When the sound level falls below the threshold, after a preset period the air conditioner is activated only when the room temperature departs from a temperature range which is preset in the unit.

    Abstract: A current control device for connection in series with an AC load where it is not convenient to make connections in parallel with the load. The device comprises a pair of terminals for connection in series with an AC load, a triac for controlling the flow of current through the load, and a control circuit for controlling the triac. A circuit for supplying current to power supply rails when current is flowing through the load comprises a transformer having a primary winding connected in series with the terminals, and a secondary winding connected across the input of a rectifier, the output of which is connected across the supply rails. A circuit for supplying power to the rails when the flow of current through the load is prevented comprises a resistor bridged by a capacitor connected in series with a zener diode between the terminals, a rectifying diode and a smoothing capacitor.
