  • Patent number: 6938563
Abstract: A grate furnace with a grate includes grate steps made of grate elements lying next to one another. Every second grate step in the longitudinal direction of the grate can be driven for carrying out stoking movements and the grate steps in each case lying therebetween are stationary. Drive devices for driving the moveable grates are arranged in housing chambers and are in this way protected against impairment caused by material falling through the grate. A certain section of the housing chamber is open toward the bottom so that it is accessible even during operation of the grate furnace.

  • Patent number: 6814013
Abstract: In the process for treating incineration residues from waste incineration plants, the incineration material is incinerated on a furnace grate. The incineration residues produced are quenched in a wet slag remover and conveyed out of the latter. The wet incineration residues which come out of the wet slag remover are firstly divided into two fractions by means of a screening operation, after which the main fraction is washed with water taken from the wet slag remover, and in the process adhering fine pieces are separated off. The washed pieces of the incineration residues are fed for reuse. The washing water together with the ultra fine pieces which have been taken up during the washing operation pass into the wet slag remover. The fine fraction produced during the mechanical separation operation is fed back to the incineration operation.

  • Patent number: 6796251
Abstract: Incineration is controlled in such a way that a sintering and/or fusing of the slag takes place as early as in the incineration bed of the main incineration zone. • Patent number: 6748882
Abstract: In a process for influencing the properties of incineration residues from an incineration plant, in particular a waste incineration plant, the incineration is controlled sot that a sintering and/or fusing of the slag takes place as earl as in the incineration bed of the main incineration zone, and as yet unsintered or unfused incineration residues are separated off at the end of the incineration operation and fed back to the incineration operation.

  • Patent number: 6647902
Abstract: To improve slag quality, on a fired grate, at the end of the main combustion process, where burnable fractions are still present in addition to slag components which are already forming, the burnup rate or burnup intensity is changed by varying the primary air rate in sequential time sections, the time sections preferably being in a ratio of 1:1 and the reduced primary air rate being 50 to 70% of the standard primary air rate.

  • Patent number: 6513446
Abstract: In an incineration plant with combination air being fed to its furnace via a pipeline, a mixing chamber, an extractor and an air-preheating device are provided in the direction of flow of the combination air. Heated air is fed from the air-preheating device into the mixing chamber, so that the sucked-in incineration air and, in particular, the moist dust particles entrained by it are dried.

  • Patent number: 6378447
Abstract: The furnace with liquid-cooled grate elements has an inflow and a return to these grate elements, the inflow and the return being connected to a condensation device open to the atmosphere. The inflow has arranged in it a U-shaped cooling-liquid seal, one leg of which has a liquid head which corresponds to an arbitrarily selected maximum pressure. The other, shorter leg is connected to a central distributor for the individual grate elements of the grate stages. The distance between the lowest point of the coolant flow of the lowest grate element and the upper point of the shorter leg corresponds to a selectable safety height amount which generates a pressure which counteracts the spread of steam bubbles occurring in the grate elements, so as to prevent a reversal in the direction of flow of the coolant.

  • Patent number: 5950548
Abstract: In the process for burning combustibles, in particular garbage and refuse, on a furnace grate, the combustion regulation on the furnace grate is carried out in such a way that the ash developing at the end of the furnace grate has a temperature lying just below the melting point of the ash. The combustion regulation is preferably monitored by an infrared camera and influenced appropriately. In order to achieve the desired temperature, the combustion air is advantageously mixed with oxygen and/or preheated.

  • Patent number: 5711233
Abstract: The arrangement for treating combustion residues of a combustion installation comprises an ash discharger into which opens a fall shaft, into which the solid combustion residues fall from a furnace grate. The ash is conveyed from the ash discharger into the discharge shaft via a diagonally ascending push-out chute by a push-out ram whose operating rate is so adjusted that the ash is piled up in the fall shaft in a tower formation reaching above the liquid level. Fresh water or a chemical is introduced into the discharge shaft via an inlet. The ash discharger water present in the ash discharger and charged with fine particles is drained into a hermetically sealed settling tank via a draw-off duct. Ash discharger water, with which a chemical can be mixed via another line, is fed from the upper region of the settling tank by a pump via a return line to spray nozzles which are arranged in the upper region of the fall shaft.

  • Patent number: 5634412
Abstract: To detect a regulating quantity which is directly proportional to the combustion temperature, an infrared measuring device in the form of an infrared pyrometer is provided in the descending waste gas flue of an incineration plant and measures the temperature of the waste gases. The influence of radiation from the glowing fuel bed or the flame is excluded by arranging this measuring device in the descending waste gas flue. The temperature-dependent regulating quantity which is determined in this way can be used directly or indirectly to influence the combustion process. In a preferred application, the temperature-dependent regulating quantity serves to influence the supply of fuel and the speed of the combustion grate, while a regulating quantity derived from the mass flow of steam serves to influence the supply of primary air.

  • Patent number: 5606924
Abstract: To carry out a process for regulating individual factors or all factors influencing combustion on a furnace grate, a radar device is provided primarily. This radar device serves to detect the three-dimensional distribution of the fuel mass on at least one preferred region of the grate. In addition, an infrared camera is provided for supplying information on the burn-up behavior of the fuel located on the grate. By using the measured quantities obtained from these two devices, control variables may be derived within a regulating unit for influencing the grate speed, the charging device, the amount and composition of supplied primary air, the amount and composition of supplied secondary air, the speed of the ash roller and the temperature of the air preheating device so that the furnace performance can be adapted to the steam output requirement.
