Patent number: 11518549Abstract: An autonomous spacecraft propellant-gauging system, the system including a propellant tank, one or more heating devices, at least one temperature sensor and a processor. The heating devices are used to heat up the propellant tank, and the temperature sensors sense the temperature of the propellant content of the propellant tank. The processor controls operations of the heating devices and the temperature sensor. The processor further executes an algorithm to automate gauging of the propellant content of the propellant tank based on a reduced order model (ROM) and a number of parameters, and reports out an estimate of the mass of the remaining propellant of the propellant tank.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2019Date of Patent: December 6, 2022Assignee: LOCKHEED MARTIN CDRPORATIONInventor: Jay Harold Ambrose

Patent number: 11518551Abstract: A carrier of a spacecraft can include multiple latch assemblies that are linked together and held in place by one notched bolt or main shaft, which is out of the main load path. The latch assemblies secure the payload (e.g., CubeSat device) within a carrier by interfacing with pin assemblies on the payload. To deploy the payload, the shape memory alloy actuator is fired which causes a series of springs and preload forces to rotate latches of the latch assemblies out of the path of the pin assemblies. Once the latches are out of the way, the payload is deployed by a spring-loaded pusher assembly and guided through deployment using rollers. Each latch assembly is preloaded in tension using a corresponding preload lug of a receiver assembly.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2019Date of Patent: December 6, 2022Assignee: LOCKHEED MARTIN CORPORATIONInventor: Matthew Owen Zevenbergen
