Patent number: 4930262Abstract: In the control process for surface grinding a measuring sensor of a stationary electronic measuring unit with a memory determines the actual heights of a group of workpiece blanks in a precision grinding machine on workpiece mounts on a switchable spindle head relative to a reference point on the appropriate spindle. To avoid thickness errors due to tolerance-dependent variations of the workpiece mounts at least one reference workpiece of an accurately predetermined thickness is placed on the individual workpiece mounts, and is measured in the same way as the workpiece blanks. Height measurements of the reference workpiece are made on the workpiece mounts relative to the reference points and are fed to the memory as setpoint values.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1988Date of Patent: June 5, 1990Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst Thielenhaus GmbHInventor: Jurgen Sennewald

Patent number: 4813186Abstract: An apparatus is provided for converting a pressurized air operating impulse to a hydraulic operating impulse, especially for a precision grinding machine. The apparatus comprises at least one tool support, a compressed air control system for a plurality of adjusting or positioning piston cylinder devices, and a cooling and washing fluid system. The tool support has a fed piston cylinder device which is provided with two pressurized medium inlets, one of these inlets being for the feeding and pressing on motion, the other one being for the take off motion. Two regulating chambers mounted vertically are provided with connecting members for the pressurized medium inlets of the fed piston cylinder device in the lower portion of the regulating chambers.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1987Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst Thielenhaus GmbHInventor: Rolf Wilde

Patent number: 4800683Abstract: The grinding toolholders of a grinding machine for the fine grinding or honing of a camshaft or other workpiece are displaced along nonrotatable threaded spindles by high-precision rotatable nuts which are driven by a stepping motor on each holder via a cog belt coupling all of the nuts of each holder with the stepping motor. This ensures synchronous drive of the nuts and allows narrow holders to be used to grind closely spaced zones without the danger of canting of the holders.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1987Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst Thielenhaus GmbHInventor: Rudolf Schwar

Patent number: 4800682Abstract: The grinder, especially a high precision grinder, for a ring bearing which has a race with a curved cross section comprises at least one tool support and at least one tool holder. The tool holder is support in the tool support on two equal feed guide rods. A feed piston cylinder device for a feed and a withdrawal motion is provided. The tool support with the tool holder is oscillatable to and fro about a substantially central oscillation axis through the tool support which provides a tool mounted in the tool holder in the working position with a to and fro pivoting motion rotating substantially about the center of the curved cross section of the race. To minimize disturbing vibration the feed guide rods are held and secured at both ends by at least one crosstie bar. The crosstie bars at both ends of the feed guide bars are mass balanced in regard to the pivoting motion.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1987Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst Thielenhaus GmbHInventors: Martin Wolters, Rolf Wilde, Manfred Loock

Patent number: 4669223Abstract: A fine grinding machine for crankshafts, camshafts and the like, has a fixed headstock housing in which the spindle carrying the workpiece chuck is rotatable and axially reciprocatable. The chucking action is effected by an axial displacement of the spindle by a setting mechanism which acts upon the spindle via the same member as that which transmits the axial reciprocation thereto for the oscillating drive. A flexible connection in the rotating drive permits the axial movement.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1986Date of Patent: June 2, 1987Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst Thielenhaus GmbHInventor: Rudolf Schwar

Patent number: 4665659Abstract: A cylindrical workpiece has an end face ground on two synchronously driven supporting rollers, by a grinding tool mounted on a drive shaft in front of the supporting rollers, and a loading mechanism and an unloading mechanism. The loading mechanism and the unloading mechanism are a simply functioning loading and unloading unit which has a carriage mounted above the supporting rollers limitedly slidable back and forth on an upright frame portion and two bent workpiece carriers supported on the upright frame portion pivotable about horizontal pivot axes. Each of the two bent workpiece carriers is pivotally connected by a link member to the carriage and has a working arm which is provided with a holder and with a pressing roller enclosed in the holder with a predetermined clearance. The bent workpiece carriers are pivotable with the back and forth motion of the carriage so that the working arms alternatingly pivot between a grinding position and a loading and unloading position.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1986Date of Patent: May 19, 1987Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst Thielenhaus GmbHInventors: Rudolf Schwar, Detlef Thiemann

Patent number: 4513538Abstract: A honing, superfinishing or superfinished grinding system utilizes a tool rotatable about an axis for superfinishing a surface of a thin wall workpiece whose other surface is directly contacted by a coolant to remove heat directly opposite the machining surface and thereby prevent distortion.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1983Date of Patent: April 30, 1985Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst Thielenhaus GmbHInventors: Martin Wolters, Gerd R. Patent number: 4505071Abstract: A machine for finish-grinding of both axial and off-axial sections of a crankshaft, rotating about a main axis and oscillating therealong, comprises fixed first holders interleaved with movable second holders. The first holders support respective sets of primary tool carriers, three per set, equipped with abrasive stones that are equispaced about the main axis and act as intermediate bearings for the crankshaft. The second holders support similar sets of secondary tool carriers each with three abrasive stones defining a working axis. Each second holder, connected with the machine frame through an articulated linkage, is bracketed by two first holders and is guided by their flat surfaces with the aid of three sliders equispaced about the corresponding working axis; the sliders have recessed contact faces communicating with a source of hydraulic oil acting as a pressure fluid and as a lubricant.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1983Date of Patent: March 19, 1985Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst Thielenhaus GmbHInventor: Rudolf Schwar

Patent number: 3959990Abstract: An assembly for connecting the output shaft of an electric motor or the like to the input of a gearbox or the like comprises a rigid housing having one side flanged to the motor and another side flanged to the gearbox. A rigid connecting sleeve is journaled in the housing and rotatable about an axis extending between the motor and the gearbox. A pinion meshing with the input of the gearbox has a short mounting shaft which is cemented into one end of the sleeve. The output shaft of the motor is keyed to a hub received in the other end of the sleeve. A plurality of matching outwardly open recesses on the hub are alignable with similar inwardly open recesses in the sleeve and connecting members each comprising a steel rod surrounded by an elastomeric layer are received in these recesses so as rotationally to link the hub to the sleeve. Misalignment of the motor output shaft with the input of the gearbox is therefore compensated for by these elastic connecting members.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1974Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Ernst ThielenhausInventor: Friederich Golitz
