    Abstract: A honing device has a honing tool for the precision machining of blind-hole bores in a workpiece. The honing tool has a shank, at the free end of which honing strips are arranged. They can be moved radially outwards by means of a spreader rod. In a coolant duct system in the tool, during the machining of the workpiece coolant is supplied to the end of the honing tool facing the workpiece. To return the coolant, there are return ducts which extend along the outer periphery of the honing tool. The honing device also has a coolant feed device which can be aligned with and fixed to the honing tool. The feed and return of the coolant guarantee a precisely defined coolant circulation within the network zone.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing, in workpieces, bores having a high surface quality, and especially for producing cylinder bores in engine cylinder blocks. At least one fine surface machining is carried out with a rotating honing tool that executes a contrarotating stroke movement in the direction of the axis of a bore. The honing tool has honing stones that can be pressed radially against the wall of the bore via a feed system. The method and apparatus preclude damaging effects upon the surface quality of a bore as a result of the movement reversal of the honing tool. This is accomplished by reducing the force, with which the honing stones are pressed against the bore wall, during the reversal of the direction of the stroke movement of the honing tool. In particular, the pressure in the cylinder space of the piston/cylinder arrangement of the apparatus is reduced during reversals of the direction of the stroke movement of the honing tool.

    Abstract: A grinding machine for machining the inner surfaces of workpieces. The machine has a bench to which are secured a workpiece headstock and a carriage which supports a grinder unit. The carriage can be moved on the bench via guides which are disposed on opposite sides of the grinder unit. Respective adjusting devices are provided for respectively pivoting a given one of the guides about an axis that is disposed at right angles to the axis of the grinder. The guides are formed by a circular guide and a roller guide arrangement which extend parallel to one another. The guides can be pivoted independently of one another to conform to the respective position of the workpiece axis, so that it is possible to achieve a precise alignment of the grinder axis relative to the workpiece axis, and at the same time to feed the tool against the wall of the bore which is to be machined. A very high machining precision is obtained in this way. Furthermore, the grinding machine is structurally straight forward.

Levers supported pivotably in grooves formed in the workpiece support member are provided with tooth-like ends which engage tooth gaps of the workpiece in an approximately diametrically opposed manner. The levers are resiliently biased to rest in their engaged position in the direction of rotation of machining against stop surfaces of the grooves, with the levers being pivoted in the opposite direction during unloading to disengage the lever ends from the workpiece.

    Abstract: An apparatus for holding of workpieces with at least one vertical bore, particularly for holding a connecting rod, for a honing operation. The apparatus includes two workpiece receiving plates between which the workpiece is insertable with horizontal and vertical play. The workpiece receiving plates have an opening for receiving the honing tool. A holding device is provided and is fixable relative to a workpiece receiving plate; vertically the holding device engages the workpiece free of play at a slight engagement pressure. The holding device is freely movable toward the workpiece in a first direction, and is immovable in the opposite direction. The honing device comprises at least one angle lever, which is tiltable or pivotally journalled relative to a workpiece receiving plate, has one arm engaging against the workpiece, and has the other arm connected with a device which restrains the angle lever in the release or loosening direction.

As stroke control emitter there is provided a simple resistor which is adjustable in conformity with the machining movement and which is passed through by electric current, while pre-set values of the current or of the voltage generated by the current on the resistor are employed for limiting the stroke. The device also includes a warming-up or conditioning control which makes it possible automatically to carry out a predetermined number of working strokes with changed stroke length, the number and/or stroke length being adjustable.
