Patent number: 8327758Abstract: An apparatus for strapping an article by means of a flat tape includes least one tape guide frame having a flat tape guide passage, and a tape drive for feeding the tape into the tape guide passage, wherein arranged at the tape guide frame is an opening device which opens a narrow side of the tape guide passage, and a method of strapping an article with such an apparatus. The opening device may include at least one cover element which is movably secured to the tape guide frame and which is movable from a closed position in which it covers the narrow side of the tape guide passage into an open position in which it opens the narrow side of the tape guide passage. In that way a fresh tape loop can be introduced into the tape guide passage before the welding operation is concluded.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2007Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Gerd Mosca AGInventors: Timo Mosca, Lorenz Helmrich, Peter Lüdtke

Patent number: 7637208Abstract: Apparatus for strapping articles, wherein the band channel (28) of the band guiding frame (13) is covered by profile strips, which consist of an elastic material, preferably an elastically curing polyurethane elastomer casting mass, into which are embedded wear and/or sliding elements in the form of metal helical spring elements (34), the helical spring axes of which run essentially parallel to the band channel (28), and the coils of which project a little bit from the elastic material into the interior (28) of the band channel and form curved sliding surfaces (35) running essentially transversely to the band channel, so that the strapping band essentially only comes into contact with the metallic sliding surfaces of the spring elements during the exit from the band channel, and thereby does not damage the elastic material of the profile strips.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2006Date of Patent: December 29, 2009Assignees: Cyklop GmbH, Maschinenfabrik Gerd Mosca AGInventors: Udo Reiche, Dieter Kopitz

Patent number: 7121447Abstract: In an ultrasonic welding apparatus comprising an ultrasonic sonotrode and a backing plate, flat workpieces to be welded are pressed between the sonotrode and the backing plate. Projections are provided on a portion of the surface of the sonotrode and on a portion of the surface of the backing plate, each projection-bearing surface portion being adjoined by a smooth portion. The flat workpieces are for example ends of a strapping tape formed in a loop around a package in a strapping machine and the aim is to produce a weld of increased strength.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2004Date of Patent: October 17, 2006Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Gerd Mosca AGInventors: Timo Mosca, Peter Lüdtke

Patent number: 6901851Abstract: A mechanism for rotating an object having a flat bottom surface on a conveyor system is described. Four circular disk segments whose rotational axes lie on a plane and are offset 90 degrees from each other are pressed against the bottom surface by a linear drive and subsequently rotated. The top surface of each disk segment lies against the bottom surface in the direction of a tangent of a circle around the rotational axis of the object. The recessed segments do not touch the bottom surface of the object. As the circular disk segments rotate, their outer circumferences rest against the bottom surface and rotate the object. This rotating mechanism is used in strapping machines and provides a method of rotation.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2002Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Gerd Mosca AGInventor: Dieter Baumann

Patent number: 6786026Abstract: Described is a device for strapping packages having a tape supply for a tape-like strapping means, a tape guide channel for passage of the strapping means and a sealing unit for sealing the loop formed by the strapping means and surrounding the package, the tape guide channel being arranged on a frame that consists of two curved frame parts, which are movable out of a rest position below a supporting surface for the packages into a closed position above the supporting surface and back. Such an arrangement simplifies the drive and the guide for the frame parts. This is achieved since each of the two frame parts is guided moveably along its curved centerline below the supporting surface by at least one guiding device.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2002Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Gerd Mosca AGInventor: Lorenz Helmrich

Patent number: 6517652Abstract: Disclosed is a method for connecting at least two thermoplastic elements. The elements are pressed together and welded elements whereby at least two welds are produced. This method may be used for friction welding of two overlapping sections of a thermoplastic strip. Also disclosed is a system for wrapping the strip around a package. The strip is passed around the package to form a loop whereby the sections are arranged at each end of the loop. The strip is tightened and secured by at least one clamping plate of the system. The strip is pressed against an abutment plate of the system pressing the overlapping sections together by a vibrating plate of the system. The overlapping sections are pressed against the abutment plate by the vibrating plate welding the overlapping sections by the vibrating plate whereby at least two welds are A produced one behind each other in longitudinal direction of the strip and separated from one another by an unwelded area of the strip.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2000Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Gerd Mosca AGInventor: Michael Gratz
