Abstract: The invention provides a method for preparing a binder precursor, the method comprising the steps of: i) mixing (A) fungi or glucan and (B) starch with an alkaline agent in the presence of an aqueous solvent system to form an alkaline composition; ii) mixing the alkaline composition with an acidic agent to form a mixture; and iii) drying the mixture and forming a powder therefrom, so as to form a powdered binder precursor.
