Abstract: An apparatus for producing a printed mailing has an accumulator module in which an envelope and an insert are compiled to a set. In a folding module arranged downstream of the accumulator module, the set is folded to form the printed mailing. In the accumulator module the envelope is positioned displaced relative to the insert and the set is folded at least twice in the folding module. In the method for producing a printed mailing, an envelope and an insert are complied to a set. The envelope is positioned such that a first end portion of the envelope projects past the insert transversely to a folding edge. Envelope and insert are folded jointly such that a second end portion of the envelope is positioned between two layers of the folded insert. The first end portion is then folded across a section of the envelope that encloses the insert.

The tray is arranged in a lowered position relative to the feeding device. A stop is provided downstream of the tray. At least one transport roll transports sheets individually from the feeding device onto the tray to form a stack. An adjusting element is arranged in an area where the feeding device and the tray adjoin, wherein the adjusting element is adjustable between a lowered rest position and a position of use lifted relative to the rest position. In the position of use, the adjusting element lifts a trail end of a first sheet that has reached the tray such that a following second sheet is moved into a position underneath the trail end of the first sheet.

  • Patent number: 6796558
Abstract: In a method for transporting sheets of paper the individual sheets are conveyed successively in a conveying direction to a stop unit and at least one sheet is held at the stop unit to form a set at the stop unit. The stop unit is activated for conveying the set formed at the stop unit when a sheet of a next set to be formed at the stop unit overlaps the set formed at the stop unit. The device for performing the method has a collector with transport elements for transporting sheets along a transport path and a stop unit positioned in the transport path and operated intermittently for forming sets of sheets and further transporting the sets formed thereat. A control device is connected to the stop unit. The collector further has a first sensor device connected to the control device which sends an activation signal to the stop unit when a sheet of a next set to be formed overlaps a set already formed at the stop unit.

  • Patent number: 6475129
Abstract: A buckle folding machine is provided with a device with which the folding rollers (W1 through W5) can be automatically set to different folding gap widths as a function of the measured or calculated thickness of a sheet of paper or stack passing through the folding gap (F1 through F4). The folding rollers to be adjusted are mounted on pivoted levers (22), which are mounted coaxially in pairs and which be pivoted against permanent restoring forces under the effect of electrically controllable adjusting members (S1 through S5). The adjusting members are actuated by an electronic process computer, which calculates the folding gap widths to be set in the particular case according to a preset working program from measured and/or manually entered paper thicknesses or stack thicknesses and/or fold types. The adjusting members (S1 through S5) comprise a plurality of pneumatic working cylinders, which are arranged in a row in a cascade-like pattern, and whose working strokes mutually add up.

  • Patent number: 5676365
Abstract: A web and sheet sluice adjustable to different material thicknesses for sheets of paper or the like, which are fed to a processing or treating unit. The sluice has a passage gap between a friction roller, which rotates continuously during the working operation, and an axially parallel braking roller, which is radially adjustable in relation to the friction roller. An electric switching element sends a control signal for an electric circuit during the adjustment of the passage gap to the thickness of a sample located in the passage gap. The braking roller is rotatably mounted on the cylindrical eccentric of an eccentric shaft, which can be driven by a first electric motor drive and can optionally be adjusted to both directions of rotation, and with the friction roller stationarily stopped, it can be driven by a second electric motor drive at a speed of rotation that is substantially higher than the velocity of adjustment of the braking roller via a driving gear which can be moved out of its normal position.
