Abstract: A method of making a zinc sulphide ceramic body having a low electrical resistance characterized by sulphurizing a starting oxide material consisting essentially of zinc oxide and from 0.01 atomic % to 6.0 atomic % of at least one oxide of a metal selected from the group consisting of aluminum, magnesium, nickel, cobalt, cadmium, lead, indium, bismuth, antimony, titanium, zirconium, silicon, tin, niobium, tantalum, tungsten, and the rare earth element metals in a carbon disulphide atmosphere at a temperature in the range of 700.degree. C to 1000.degree. C. This zinc sulphide ceramic body can be formed into non-linear elements such as phosphors, photoconductors, luminescent elements, varistors, piezoelectric transducers, capacitors and combinations thereof. Particularly, by using this zinc sulphide body in light emitting elements, the luminous efficiency as well as the working voltage can be improved.

Abstract: The invention discloses an electronic input-interruption timer for use with an electrical appliance such as a washing machine, a fan, a refrigerator and so on. The timer comprises an integrator consisting of an input resistor and a capacitor, a switching element, a MOS field-effect transistor, a discharge resistor, and a switching circuit operable in response to the magnitude of the drain current of the field-effect transistor; the field-transistor, the switching element, the capacitor and the discharge resistor being embedded or potted in a molded plastic insulation. Since the capacitor and the discharge resistor are completely air- and water-tightly sealed, the highly reliable and dependable operation may be ensured even when used with a water-handling appliance such as a washing machine.

Abstract: A two-valued object such as black-and-white textural or pictorial material is repeatedly scanned aong each of a plurality of line paths within the object to produce an image signal which is representative of a series of black and white runs or areas within the line path. The length of black or white run or "run length" is sampled by clock pulses and translated into a binary code and transmitted bit by bit at the line scan rate to a receiver station. A vertical sync pulse is inserted at the end of the (n-1)th run length wherein n represents the number of run lengths within the image signal so that the last run length is skipped. The last run length so skipped at the transmitter is reconstructed at the receiver during the time interval of the vertical sync pulse.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a gas combustion device with a safety device including a combustible gas sensor which consists of an oxygen concentration cell comprising a calcined solid ion conductive electrolyte material and porous electrodes attached to both the major surfaces of the electrolyte material. The safety valve is operated in response to both outputs from the combustible gas sensor and from a pilot burner sensor including a thermocouple or the like. When the carbon monoxide content is increased, the safety valve is automatically closed, thereby interrupting the supply of gas and consequently preventing carbon monoxide poisoning and/or gas explosion.

Abstract: A guide drum apparatus for a video tape recorder and/or player has: a main shaft secured on a chassis, a first guide drum rotatably mounted on the main shaft and having a plurality of magnetic video heads, driving means for rotating the first guide drum at a rotational speed greater than the speed of movement of a tape, and a second guide drum mounted on the main shaft coaxially with the first guide drum and rotatable independently therefrom. The first and second guide drums have tape guiding portions, respectively, which are opposed to each other and have peripheral tape guide surfaces to guide the magnetic tape. Adjusting means is mounted on the main shaft so as to adjust the height of the video heads with respect to the tape guiding portion of the second guide drum. With this guide drum apparatus, the height of the video heads can be adjusted precisely and easily to trace the video track on the tape even while the video heads are rotating at a high speed.

Abstract: An automatic thread winding apparatus for automatically winding thread on a plurality of double-flanged bobbins of a type for use in sewing machines. The apparatus includes a bobbin supply unit for supplying bobbins in an arbitrary manner and in a row onto a thread winding unit. The bobbins in a row are successively transferred, one at a time, to the thread winding unit by a shuttling mechanism. Thread winding takes place while each one of the empty bobbins are firmly held between a tailstock and a headstock. The bobbin after having been wound with a predetermined quantity of thread is subsequently doffed onto a temporary storage mechanism wherein cutting of a portion of the thread extending between the filled bobbin and the temporary storage mechanism takes place. All of these processes are timed and sequentially performed by various cam mechanisms.
