  • Patent number: 4119542
Abstract: A centrifugal separator comprises a follow rotor which is formed with a row of pores arranged circumferentially of the rotor and perforated, cylindrical film detachably received on the inner peripheral surface of the rotor. A mass of a semifluid material positioned within the film is splashed on to the inner surface of the film by a centrifugal force so that the liquid content of the material is passed through the film. The film is radially contracted by the liquid pressure developed between the film and the inner peripheral surface of the rotor and forms a cylindrical interstice between the film and the rotor, providing an additional filter medium through which the liquid is filtered and withdrawn from the pores. The rotor may be closed throughout its area and have a free longitudinal end from which to allow the liquid to withdraw. The centrifugal separator finds an application as a juice extractor if provided with a grating disc.

  • Patent number: 4112420
Abstract: A piezoelectric transducer is secured to the surface of a glass sheet to translate mechanical vibrations generated in the glass sheet into an electrical signal when a crack is produced. A detection circuit is connected to the transducer to determine whether the frequency of the signal is above or below a predetermined value. If the frequency is higher than the predetermined value, a warning signal is derived to indicate a crack and therefore probably a burglary. Alternatively, the piezoelectric transducer in the transmit mode is excited electrically by an impulse to introduce an elastic wave into the glass sheet. A gate circuit is connected to the transducer to pass signals resulting from reflection of the elastic wave from discontinuities in the glass sheet which result from a crack. The reflected crack indicating signals are passed through the gate to the transducer when it is in the receive mode.

  • Patent number: 4090243
Abstract: A color print painted with different colors C.sub.i (i = 1, 2 . . . n) is scanned by a color scanner along a plurality of successive line paths to generate a set of electrical signals each representing the intensity of the spectral components of the light reflected from an elemental area of the print. A macroscopic color separator is provided to generate a set of electrical signals each representing the average spectral intensities per unit area of the print. A data processor is used to compute the probability P(C.sub.i) from the data obtained from the macroscopic color separator and a set of mean spectral intensities exhibited by the color samples with which the print is painted by artisans. In accordance with the Bayes' Rule, the processor then executes computation of the product of P(C.sub.

  • Patent number: 4055817
Abstract: A variable frequency oscillator comprises an oscillating loop and a variable phase shifter for imparting one of two different phase shifts depending upon the polarities of a DC control voltage to a signal from the oscillating loop. The phase-shifted signal has its amplitude controlled by the amplitude of the control voltage and is combined with the signal in the oscillating loop. The vector sum of the combined signals determines the phase angle of the oscillator signal and hence the frequency thereof.

  • Patent number: 4013338
Abstract: A phase mask comprised of a square array of phase shifting areas arranged in pseudo-random pattern is illuminated with a beam of electromagnetic radiation, as a result of which an array of pseudo-randomly phase shifted beams emerges from the phase mask and impinges upon an object transparency to be intensity-modulated thereby and come to a focus on a Fourier transform plane. The power spectrum of the beams distributes in orthogonal directions on the Fourier transform plane from its center maxima in a distinct pattern of series of fringes. The technique of apodization is employed to suppress the fringes to thereby reduce the coherent noise of a hologram to a minimum.

  • Patent number: 3955126
Abstract: The electrolyte is composed of a complex salt of 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane(TCNQ) and a nitrogen-containing polymer capable of dissolving the salt. The capacitor characteristics are largely affected by both the molecular weight and the amount of the polymer, and the capacitor of improved characteristics is provided by the use of the polymer of a mean molecular weight between 2,000 and 200,000 in an amount between 2 and 10% by weight of the TCNQ salt.

  • Patent number: 3953210
Abstract: A film coated with a dispersion of an N-vinyl compound, an organic halogen compound and a sensitizer in gelatin is preheated at 60.degree.-120.degree.C before an imagewise exposure to sensitize the film and to destroy fog-nuclei. After the imagewise exposure the film is subjected to a red light flood exposure for intensifying latent image, heating for development and flood light exposure for fixing to give a negative image of high contrast. The preheating may be applied to a film once exposed to extinguish the resulting latent image and thereby to be subjected to another exposure.

  • Patent number: 3947627
Abstract: A two-valued image is scanned repeatedly along a single line path at a predetermined constant rate and gated out when a transmitter is ready for transmission. A plurality of memory devices are used cyclically for storing an image signal of successive lines. The signal is gated out for processing and then transmitted. In one aspect of the invention, two-valued image is scanned on a two-line-at-a-time basis to produce first and second discrete sampled signals which are combined one-by-one to form four combinations of discrete signals. The combinations are formed into a sequence of combination runs. The kinds of combinations and the length of combination runs are respectively encoded into binary codes for transmission.
