Abstract: A ferroelectric memory device includes a plurality of bit line pairs, a plurality of sense amplifiers, a plurality of memory cells, a plurality of reference cells, and a control circuit. Each of the bit line pairs is composed of first and second bit lines. Each of the sense amplifiers amplifies a potential difference across the corresponding bit line pair. The memory cells are provided for the respective bit line pairs and each composed of a transistor and a ferroelectric capacitor. The reference cells are provided for the respective bit line pairs and each composed of a transistor and a ferroelectric capacitor. In addition, each of the reference cells on each of the bit line pairs retains data different from data of a reference cell on the adjacent bit line pair. The control circuit drives the sense amplifiers, the memory cells, and the reference cells. During the drive of the sense amplifier, the control circuit inactivates a reference word line connected to the reference cell.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a recording and reproducing method and apparatus for an optical disk of the phase transition type that can be overwritten. According to this invention, the capacity of repeated rewriting of the optical disk is expanded by recording either non-inverted write data or inverted write data at random. The deterioration due to the repeated rewriting at a start point and an end point of the recording is suppressed by recording a synchronizing signal before the write data and/or dummy data after the write data in the way such that thermal stress is less likely to occur. A record end position can be determined precisely by detecting a stop pulse to stop recording.

Abstract: When the modulation speed of the laser is increased, it is difficult to correctly detect a peak power and a bias power for controlling a laser power. The bias power current Ib is controlled by the operated value of the operation circuit 3 in accordance with the reproduction power current Ir control value of the servo amplifier 5 at the reproduction just before recording, and as for the erase power Pe, since its period is relatively long, the power is detected by the sample-hold circuit 4 and the erase power current Ie is controlled by the operation circuit 3, and the peak power PP is controlled by the operated value of the operation circuit 3 in accordance with the erase power current Ie, and therefore, a bottom hold circuit and a peak hold circuit are not required and the laser control apparatus which does not require the high-speed performance in a photodiode and a monitor circuit is realized to solve the above mentioned problem.

Abstract: Disclosed is a user-friendly electronic apparatus having a pen and a panel as the input devices. The pen is tethered to the apparatus by a cord on which position data is recorded along its length direction. Responding to the readout of the position data, the CPU controls the reel-in operation according to the standby mode or the sleep mode of the apparatus. As the pen is held at a proper position on the apparatus by the CPU's control, the user is free from worrying about dropping, spoiling, or losing the pen. Besides, the operation of reeling-out the pen from a housing position in the apparatus allows the apparatus to automatically come back into an active mode from its sleep mode or standby mode.
