  • Patent number: 10334525
Abstract: As the variety and number of wireless client devices have increased, often there may be multiple client devices in close proximity of each other. In addition to the connectivity to the wireless wide area network (WWAN), the client devices may have short range link to directly connect with each other. Two or more client devices in a given area may be camped on the same cell of the same WWAN, and the client devices may be decoding the paging information from the same cell. A method and apparatus are disclosed such that a client device may decode the paging information from the WWAN and relay the WWAN paging information to other client devices over the short range link. This may enable other client devices to avoid having to decode the paging information directly from the WWAN which may reduce their power consumption.

  • Patent number: 10306593
Abstract: In wireless communications systems, a client terminal performs cell search procedure to find a suitable cell and camp on it to receive service from the network. In 3GPP LTE wireless communication system, the initial cell search involves the decoding of the Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) which may take a long time to decode which affects the time it takes to camp on an appropriate cell. One of the reasons for this is that conventional methods perform PBCH decoding sequentially to find a suitable cell. A method and apparatus are disclosed that perform the PBCH decoding in parallel for multiple cells. This method enables the client terminal to camp on a cell and receive service faster than conventional methods.

  • Patent number: 10271321
Abstract: The 3GPP LTE wireless communication system employs dynamic scheduling and assignment of resources using the Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) to support low latency requirements for many applications. To keep the payload overhead low on the control messages, the dynamic scheduling and assignment messages over the PDCCH need to be decoded by the User Equipment (UE) by searching a number of possible PDCCH candidates in a given control region of the 3GPP LTE wireless communication system. This is often referred to as blind decoding of PDCCH. The high number of blind decoding attempts may lead to increased power consumption in a UE. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable a UE to reduce the total number of decoding attempts without missing any PDCCH candidates that may be addressed to the UE which in turn may reduce the power consumption and may reduce the probability of false DCI detection.

  • Patent number: 10212163
Abstract: To provide increased security in Wi-Fi enabled client devices, Media Access Control (MAC) address of a client device may have to be entered manually in a hotspot device which may increase complexity. A method and apparatus are disclosed in which a first client device, referred as Admin client device, may be authenticated by provisioning the MAC address of the client device in a hotspot device. When a new client device is connected with hotspot device, the hotspot device may send MAC address of the new client device to Admin client device. The Admin client device may prompt the device authentication request with MAC address of a new client device. If the user authenticates the request, MAC address of the new client device may be authenticated and internet access may be provided to the new client device. With this method, connection establishment of new client devices is simplified with increased security.

  • Patent number: 10212633
Abstract: In cellular communication systems, the success rate for incoming calls for a client terminal in idle mode is related to the successful reception of paging messages. The instances for paging message transmission, known as paging occasions, may be based on a client terminal's unique identity. The network transmits a paging message addressed to a specific client terminal in its specific paging occasion. In addition to the reception of paging messages, a client terminal may be required to search and monitor neighbor cells for cell reselection and handoffs. A method and apparatus are disclosed that improve the cell reselection by using the known a priori information to categorize the neighbor cells, to categorize the cell reselection types, and to perform cell reselection to an appropriate neighbor cell at the opportune time such that a paging message reception may be neither missed nor delayed during the cell reselection.

  • Patent number: 10212679
Abstract: The propagation channel in a wireless communication system may be characterized as a multipath fading model wherein the multiple delayed and attenuated versions of the transmitted signal are received. In the receiver's processing chain, the impairments introduced by this propagation channel may be equalized using the channel estimates. The channel estimation is mainly performed using the known reference signals by conventional methods. The estimation of delay spread profile may be crucial for high performance channel estimation. The conventional methods may be appropriate for high operating channel bandwidths. In the case of low channel bandwidth, limited number of reference signals may be available which may not be adequate for accurate delay spread estimation. A method and apparatus are disclosed that improve the delay spread estimation for low channel bandwidth scenarios.

  • Patent number: 10206124
Abstract: Many applications used in communication systems involve bidirectional data transfer. In bidirectional data transfer applications, a client terminal has to turn on its hardware components such as transmitter at the time of transmitting the data and the receiver at the time of receiving the data. When the transmission and reception of data happens at different time instances, the client terminal has to turn on and off the transmitter, the receiver and other modules at separate time instances. This may lead to increased power consumption. A method and apparatus are disclosed for the modem in a client terminal that bring the transmission and the reception instances close to each other or overlap with each other when performing bidirectional communication. This may reduce the rate at which the client terminal has to turn on and off its transmitter, receiver and other modules which may in turn reduce its power consumption.

  • Patent number: 10193740
Abstract: Modern mobile communication devices have a number of features that enable the users to stay connected with people, stay informed about various local and global events. While these features are useful, they can be intrusive or may cause distraction under some conditions. To reduce the disturbance and intrusion, the various notifications that inform the user about the new events on the mobile device may be temporarily disabled. However, the event notifications must be explicitly re-enabled by the user when it is acceptable to receive the notifications. The user may forget to re-enable the event notification which may lead to missed calls, missed event notifications, etc. A method and apparatus are disclosed that disable and enable the event notifications on the mobile device adaptively depending on the user's location and time to reduce the intrusiveness of the mobile device notification when not required while reducing any missed event notifications.
