  • Patent number: 8958691
Abstract: An approach is provided for performing fault recovery using composite transport groups (CTGs). A first logical channel is established within a composite transport group, wherein the first logical channel is established over a first link associated with a first service provider to a customer premise equipment (CPE) node configured to transport packets. A second logical channel is established within the composite transport group, wherein the second logical channel is established over a second link associated with a second service provider to an optical node. Packets are received over the first logical channel. Packets are received over the second logical channel if the first logical channel experiences a fault condition, wherein switching to the second logical channel is transparent to the CPE node.

Abstract: Characteristics about one or more wireless access devices in a wireless network, whether known or unknown entities, can be determined using a system and method according to the present invention. An observation is made of the activity over a Wireless Area Network (WLAN). Based on this activity, changes in state of wireless access devices within the WLAN can be observed and monitored. These changes in state could be indicative of normal operation of the WLAN, or they may indicate the presence of an unauthorized user. In the latter case, an alert can be sent so that appropriate action may be taken. Additionally, ad hoc networks can be detected that may be connected to a wireless access point.

  • Publication number: 20110043376
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are provided for alerting a driver that a potential hazard is in the vicinity of the driver's vehicle. In general, activation signals transmitted from a vehicle are received at a potential hazard, and hazard signals are, in response, transmitted from the potential hazard to the vehicle. The hazard signals provide an indication of the potential hazard to the driver so that he may be aware of the potential hazard and react accordingly. The indication may be provided to the driver visually, such as on a display of the vehicle, and/or audibly, such as in the form of an audible alert issued by a speaker. The hazard signals may also include one or more characteristics of the potential hazard to provide more information about the potential hazard to the driver, such as the type of potential hazard and/or the degree of danger associated with the potential hazard.

  • Publication number: 20100150514
Abstract: A manifold for holding spliced optical fibers and their protective plastic coatings in a secure and motionless manner. The manifold includes a “clamp” made from a soft durometer material (SDM) such as a high strength silicone mold-making rubber or a dry polymer gel that has been partially sliced to a depth of about 75%. The manifold permits ease of insertion of a spliced optical fiber into, and removal of that spliced optical fiber from, an SDM-slice without disturbing other fibers that are held in other slices in the manifold. In a particular embodiment the gel or rubber SDM fills a four-sided plastic box to overflow.

  • Publication number: 20100094619
Abstract: An exemplary system and method are directed at receiving an audio signal and process the audio signal into a remapped audio signal based on a plot profile. The plot profile may include at least one of an identified range of audio frequencies. The processing may comprise retrieving an identified range of audio frequencies from the plot profile; determining a range of impaired audio frequencies in the audio signal based on the identified range of audio frequencies; shifting the frequency of at least a portion of the impaired audio frequencies to outside of the identified range; and continuing to retrieve identified ranges of audio frequencies from the plot profile. The shifting of the impaired audio frequencies of the audio signal may be performed until no further identified ranges of audio frequencies are available for consideration.

  • Publication number: 20100027415
Abstract: An approach is provided for fault detection and notification for a composite transport group (CTG). A component link of a CTG associated with a label switched path (LSP) is monitored. A fault is detected in the component link. It is determined whether traffic of the LSP can be transparently rerouted to another component link of the CTG based on resource availability of the other component link. The traffic is transparently rerouted to the other component link if resources are available. An upstream label switched node is notified if resources are unavailable.
